>> Hi. I'm Tom Merritt, editor from CNET.com here at CES 2008. We're taking a look at the Belkin Conserve Surge Protector. This is a solution for problem that annoys me. See this bricks here, like for your laptop or to recharge something. They will use power whether you have your device plugged into them or not. But of course it's a pain to go down and reach and unplug them every time. So, Belkin's suggestion for solving this is this device that has a power switch wirelessly connected to the surge protector. Six of these outlets are connected to this, two of them are always On. As you can see we've got one device here that's glowing blue and the rest are dark. That way, these are not drying power, when I'm away. When I come back home, I take, go to the wall, turn it On and the lights go blue, the LED light goes back On. Everything is working again. This will be available in late second quarters, so, Springish sometime and they say it will retail for about $49. Once again, it's the Belkin Conserve Surge Protector. At CES 2008, I'm Tom Merritt. ^M00:01:09 [ Music ]

Belkin Conserve Surge Protector (8-outlet) Review
The good: The Belkin Conserve surge protector allows you to completely shut down most of your components to save on energy costs while keeping two outlets reserved for electronics you want to keep "always on"; surge protection for cable/satellite RF lines; sliding safety covers for outlets; wireless remote included for power on/off.
The bad: No socket for Powerline network adapters; no phone line or network protection.
The bottom line: Belkin's Conserve surge protector probably won't save you a ton of money, but it does provide a convenient way to selectively shut off any power-sucking devices in your home.
