The Beats Pill speaker has got some pop Video Transcript

-Hi, I'm David Carnoy, executive editor for cnet.com. And I'm here with the Beats by Dre pill bluetooth speaker. The speaker is very much in the vein of the Jawbone JAMBOX. It is a little bit longer and is in the shape of a capsule. As you could see, it actually comes packaged much like a pill and it comes with a nice carrying case. Like JAMBOX, this one has a rechargeable battery and a built-in speaker phone capability. One feature you will not find in the JAMBOX is NFC capabilities unless you take an NFC phone such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 and tap to pair it. Like a lot of other small bluetooth speakers, this one charges via USB. It also has an input for non-bluetooth devices if you have an optional capable and it has an output as well. But really what sets this apart from the competition is its form factor, its design, and also its sound quality. It's a little bit better than the JAMBOX. It plays loud for its size, has decent base, decent clarity. It's not gonna blow everyone away, but certainly it offers impressive sound for its size. I'm David Carnoy and that's the Beats by Dre pill bluetooh speaker. Thanks for watching.

Cex: "Take Pills"

In 2003, it is press-bio cliche to front that an artist or an album is so original it resists definition, which for most artists is the case. And most of the time, originality isn't even meritous. Unless you are CEX aka loquacious Baltimore-based MC / laptop wunderkind and stylistic shape shifter Rjyan Kidwell, in which case your originality and unwavering commitment to your own artistic evolution clearly evidences you as a genius. So how would one ever expect to find out who Cex really is? Cex himself provides the easy answer: rjyan.com. Since 2000, Kidwell has kept a meticulously up-to-date, didactic and, often embarrassingly forthright diary on his website-- before Beck did it, before Moby did it, and long before Blogger and Livejournal came on the scene. This diary, and the spirit of intimacy that pervades all of Cex's output, is the constant that has stayed the same throughout the Cex discography. Unlike some artists, you don't have to take a press release's word for it to believe that Cex is honest--- beyond the point-blank directness of his lyrics, you can read his own handwriting in his album's liner notes, and check the website for Rjyan holding forth on bad shows, being a feminist, Catholic guilt and what kind of drugs you can get for free. And it's fascinating.

Beats Pill (black) Review

The good: The Beats by Dr. Dre Pill is a portable Bluetooth speaker with striking design, good sound and volume for its size, decent battery life, and speakerphone capabilities. It has tap-to-pair capabilities for NFC-enabled smartphones phones, Apt-X technology, and line inputs and outputs. It also comes with a nice carrying case.

The bad: The Pill is somewhat pricey, and Apple iOS 6 users may encounter an unacceptable amount of Bluetooth hiccuping. The speaker doesn't acquit itself terribly well with big bass tracks from artists like Dr. Dre.

The bottom line: The Beats Pill outperforms the Jawbone Jambox and has a couple of intriguing extra features, but Apple iOS 6 users may encounter some problems.
