>> Donald Bell: Hey. I'm Donald Bell, Senior Editor for Digital Audio and mp3, and today we're taking a first look at the burliest, most extreme mp3 player on the market. This is the Baylis Revolution. This guy is as a thick as a book and comes in two capacities, a 4 gigabyte and 8 gigabyte capacity, which sell for $179 or $209. It may not look like much, but if you're an outdoorsy type, world traveler, or if you're just stocking up for your own personal bomb shelter, the Baylis Revolution offers a must-have feature: a handcrank. That's right. You can actually power this thing off your own steam, and you get about 45 minutes of audio playback for every one minute of cranking. Of course, you can charge the Revolution over USB as well, which is probably the only way you're going to get this thing up to full charge without breaking a sweat. Now, if the Baylis Revolution's crank were it's only feature, I'd write the whole thing off as a novelty, which is kind of what I did with last year's model, Eco Media Player. Believe it or not, the Revolution is actually a competent piece of tech. There's an FM radio, voice recorder, mp3 player, video player, FM radio recorder, line input recorder, ebook reader, ST memory expansion, integrated speaker, and an LED flashlight. How cool is that? You get LED flashlight built into the top of your mp3 player. Now, you also get a ton of accessories including a bunch of power adapter tips that let you use the handcrank to recharge your cell phone or any USB rechargeable gadget. One other quick thing I want to mention is that a lot of initial reviews of the Revolution including my own complained about the annoying noise created by using the handcrank, and it was annoying, but Baylis recently redesigned the player to produce considerably less noise. So here's the old one [cranking noise], and here's the new one [cranking noise]. It's not silent, but at least it doesn't sound like a wounded animal anymore.
