>> Hi, this is Jessica Dolcourt with CNET Download.com and today we're taking a First Look at Avvenu Access n' Share. This is a two-part service that let's you access files on your PC from your mobile phone. The first part requires you to download Avvenu software on to your PC. You can get that from Download.com. The second part is Avvenu's website, share.avvenu.com that let's you actually view your files. You log in to your account, which you create online and can clearly see the file structure in your PC. From there you can browse around your files, viewing photos and documents. Keep in mind that you have to have a document viewer on your hand-held. That's a given for most smart phones including the iPhone, but Curve users for example would already have to have a third party office app installed. Now, one of my next favorite features is file sharing, but not the way you think. With Avvenu, you can actually grant others permission to view documents on your PC by imputing their e-mail and you can choose the duration of their access: A day, a week or up to a year. You can upload fresh content back to your PC too by sending an MMS and you can do this directly with Windows Mobile phones by clicking the Upload Here link. That's all very nice, but there's some bumps too. It takes way too many clicks to view a document. Using the search link helps a little, but only if you have Google.topsearch installed on your PC. Otherwise, you'll get kicked-out. And the Beta Music Program Avvenu advertises on its site is no longer being supported. It's a bummer, but not a deal breaker. And finally, you won't be able to view any of your files if your computer is logged off or turned off. That is, unless you subscribe to the premium service like it's either a 10 or 30 gigs of storage. However, Nokia just bought the company, so expect some of these issues to be swift up. Avvenu is definitely worth your time, especially if you've got remote access means and a phone with a browser. I'm Jessica Dolcourt and this has been Avvenu Access n' Share.
