>> Hi I'm Rich Brown, Senior editor for CNET.com. Today we are going to take a look at the AVA Direct Core Two Duo SLI. As you can see this is a pretty big high end gaming system, has most of the bells and whistles we expect from a nice high-end PC these days. On the front panel you can see there is a lot going on here, AVA direct included one DVD burner and a standard DVD drive. You can also see there is a fan control here as well as a thermal Monitor, tells you how hot everything is inside, but we noticed that when our system is on the fan lights blink really fast to the point where it's a little bit irritating, we can see it might give you a headache after a while. So inside we have a nice roomy case interior, pretty much tidy cabling, maybe you could use a little more locking down here and there but for the most part there's not a lot to complain about. One thing we really like is the hard drive cage, even pull these together and pull this cage right out, makes it really easy to swap drives in and out. So our review unit has a nice beefy 850 Watt power supply, there is two G4's eight 800 cards in here as well as a dual core chip underneath this giant heat sink. We kind of wish it was a quad core chip and fortunately AVA direct does offer that and a lot of other options with this system. That's actually one of our major criticisms, is that they offered so many options that it's confusing to shop for one and we kind of wonder how well they can support literately billions of different configurations in one system. AVA direct did a nice job building the system along with the cabling, there's also plenty of cooling, there's two fans up here, big fan right here, but it's really not all that loud when it gets going. Now this is only the second desktop we've seen from AVA direct, they are kind of a smaller vendor, but we like what we've seen so far and we think that they are doing a pretty good job of building nice fast gaming systems. So I'm Rich Brown and this is the AVA Direct Core Two Duo SLI. ^M00:01:45 [ Music ]

In a normal economy, we'd expect that Falcon Northwest's new Core i7 FragBox 2 would wow us with fast performance in a compact case. Instead, the price of this system as configured has been severely undercut by a competitor. An improved warranty takes the edge off somewhat, but the new market reality makes it hard to recommend this PC.
