>> Hi, I'm Jessica Dolcourt of CNETdownload.com and here's a first look at Auslogics Disk Defrag. It's not hard to see why this free excellent utility has been a long time favorite among CNETdownload.com editors and users alike. Disk defragmententing is all about improving your computer's performance by compressing the file data on your hard disc. Think of it roughly as a suitcase full of clothes. Every time you shove in or pull out an item, it leaves a big old jumble with lots of air pockets. Well anytime that you add or delete programs and files it pretty much does the same thing to your computer's hard disc. Defragmenting repacks the suitcase so all the clothes fit together better and helps avoid sluggishness and shutdowns. The program opens with a list of system stats. Choose the drive you want to defrag there might only be one and click next. What you see next is a visualization of what's happening on your hard disc as the program runs its course. The red squares for example represent fragmented space that the apple fits. The blue squares show the defragmenting. There's also a progress bar and some more file statistics. There's really not a whole lot else to it. The help file takes you to Auslogics website and the optimize button shows another Auslogic product. You can pause and resume the scan and you get a read out and an optional online report when the scan is complete. Defragging your drive can take some time and cost a little over ten thousand kilobits of memory. In other words, it can slow your computer enough that you'd want to take advantage of the pause button if you're running a large program, or save your defragging for off peak [inaudible]. I prefer to defrag the computer of a night myself. I'm Jessica Dolcourt and you've been looking at Auslogic's disc defrag. ^M00:01:39 [ Music ]
