>> Hi everyone. I'm Jeff Bakalar assistant editor here at CNET.com. And I'm here today with the Audiovox D8000XP. Now, just like the D8000IP the XP is a portable DVD player. But, as you can see, it doesn't have the iPod support that the IP does. The main difference between the XP and the IP is that it has a 180 degree rotating screen. This is kinda cool because you can fold the screen back on top of itself and hold it in your, in your lap or something like that. We did like the design of the XP a little better than the IP because it has a rubberized coating on it that feels really good in your hands. Just like the IP, this can play only certain files off of a USB drive or SD card or Memory Stick. Again, you'll only be able to look at JPEGs and watch MPEG movies. One of the other features of the XP is that it comes with two programs a clock and calendar program. They're pretty straightforward. But, I don't think anyone is going to be using them on their portable DVD player. The remote is just like that on the IP?s. It's pretty straightforward. You can control every aspect of the unit with it and overall the picture quality was average. Altogether, the XP is a decent value. But like we said with the IP, there are models out there that perform more functions for a similar price. So, you may wanna check out one of those. I'm Jeff Bakalar and this has been the Audiovox D8000XP. ^M00:01:41 [ Music ]

Audiovox D8000XP - DVD player Review

The good: An 8-inch swivel screen; USB port and SD/MMC/MS card slot for photos, video, and music; easy-to-use screen interface; slick rubberized coating; great battery life.

The bad: Subpar speakers; cumbersome battery attachment; very limited file support for USB/flash/disc playback; nonstandard USB port; loud tactile buttons.

The bottom line: Some annoying design and feature shortfalls keep the Audiovox D8000XP from distinguishing itself from competing bargain portable DVD players.
