>> You know, at big international auto shows like Frankfurt, you'll see Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Bugattis all day long. But the new Audi R8 Spyder comes from a different direction in the supercar world. Now that's a hot car without the excess of the typical "supercar." The Spyder's a premium version, only had with the corporate V10 5.2 liter engine, basically a Lamborghini part. 525 horsepower, 390 foot pounds of torque. That's good because it's lugging around an extra 475 pounds of weight in the convertible. No wonder they didn't try and do a retractable hardtop. Interestingly, the often contrasting side panels of an R8 coupe are gone. They were really part of the roof line anyway. Instead you'll find a pair of meaty scoops grabbing your eye along the door line, and another set of vents up on top of the rear cover. In all the Spyder is one of those drop-tops that almost looks like it was the original car, and the coupe was derived from it. High praise for a ragtop. We've seen most of this cabin tech before, except for the new integrated seatbelt microphones. Three of them actually in the belt to derive optimal sound for hands-free calling even when you're driving with the top down. That's new. ^M00:01:19 [ MUSIC ]
