Video description: After over a year of major label courting from Interscope, Sony, Warner Bros, Atlantic and Universal, Minneapolis indie Hip Hop powerhouse Rhymesayers Entertainment and Atmosphere have opted to pass on all offers and continue forward with their independent approach at changing the game. With the majors left behind, Rhymesayers has found a kindred spirit with the seminal Punk label Epitaph, and a worldwide licensing deal will be releasing Seven's Travels, the brand new full-length CD from indie Hip Hop troubadours Atmosphere on September 23rd. Atmosphere consists of Slug on rhymes, Ant on beats and resident DJ Mr. Dibbs. Due to years of touring and Slug's personal lyrical style Atmosphere has become legends in the underground Hip Hop scene and beyond. With a massive following of not only die-hard Hip Hop heads but indie rockers, punks, and not to mention one of Hip Hop's largest female followings, Atmosphere is breaking down barriers and expanding the definition of what Hip Hop can be in this day and age. Seven's Travels is the 4th Atmosphere studio album and takes you on a metaphorical journey with Slug (aka Seven) through politics, emotions and the physical. Once again Slug showcases a unique ability to transmit personal truths and experiences in a way that very few Hip Hop or any other form of popular music has been able to achieve. Not only has Slug enhanced his writing but the production of Ant has also become even more complex, rhythmic and funky. Simply put, Seven's Trails is more energetic, passionate, funnier and wiser than anything they've done to date.

The Rapture: "Get Myself Into It"

The Rapture was formed in early 1998 by drummer Vito Roccoforte and guitarist/vocalist Luke Jenner. The whimsical indie group had extensive touring behind them by the time they recorded 1999's Mirror for Gravity. More touring ensued -- with the likes of Sunny Day Real Estate and Nuzzle -- and the band eventually relocated to New York City. They lost their original bassist and found a new one in Matt Safer, who had recently moved from Washington, D.C. After some more touring, the band recorded the six-song Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks EP and had it released by Sub Pop in 2001. Thanks to their sloppy brand of scratchy post-post-punk, the Rapture was hailed as a forerunner of the post-punk revival that was taking place in the early 2000s. Their profile increased significantly with 2002's "House of Jealous Lovers" 12"; that same year, they added multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Andruzzi to the fold. The full-length Echoes followed for Gary Gersh's Strummer label in late 2003. The follow-up, Pieces of the People We Love, was released three years later by Mercury.

NOFX: "Leave It Alone"

2000 is (not) the year of NOFX! But don't listen to the hype; listen to the record. Pump Up The Valuum is more clever, more irreverent and more crude than NOFX has ever been: and hot on the heels of the unprecedented The Decline, an amazing 18 minute punk-a-thon, NOFX come slamming back with 14 instant classics (in about 32 minutes). Pump Up The Valuum combines some of NOFX's most outrageous (and curiously thought provoking) lyrics like in "Louise," "Herojuana" and "My Vagina" (a first-person account of becoming a transsexual), as well as some of their most poignant lyrics like in "Total Bummer." This, their eighth album for Epitaph contains some of the most barefaced drug references and sexual in-your-endos (innuendoes is the wrong word because that means that sexual acts are only "implied"). From day one, NOFX has been all about having a good time, regardless to whose expense it came. In the liner notes of 1996's Heavy Petting Zoo, NOFX blasted the music industry circle including major labels, print media, radio, and especially MTV. This time, NOFX bring their despise of major labels into the songwriting with "Dinosaurs Will Die." Lyrics like "Parasitic music industry" and "Music created from devotion / not ambition / not for fame / zero people are exploited / there are no tricks up our sleeves" refers to the death of the 5 remaining majors, and being glad they are independent.

The Presets: "Are You the One?"

The Presets are an electro duo from down under that sound like suicide and the faint with just enough David Byrne/Talking Heads to make them strangely intimate. They are on the Modular label (who released the Avalanches). Their album, "Beams," will be out April 18th. "Drifting through twisting drum patterns and rolling, atmospheric blips, "Beams" paints a broad brush stroke, where simple deliveries meet sleazy electro and floor-stompers." - Rolling Stone Australia.
