>> Hi, I'm Bonnie Cha, Senior editor at CNET.com and today we're taking a First Look at the Asus R700t. And now you might know Asus is more for its computer components or its Eee PC, but their branching out to other consumer electronics including GPS. And for its first debut, it's not too bad actually. It has this really nice design. It's got a 4.3-inch screen on the front, so it's nice and spacious. And it's really slim, which is amazing considering that it's packed with features, including a built-in traffic receiver and you get a life time traffic subscription, so that's really great. As far as features, it's got voice-guided directions and text-guided directions as well. And you'll also get 3D building rendering, so that's pretty cool. I haven't really seen that in too many devices. It's also got Bluetooth, as well as multimedia capabilities. The one thing I'm really, really disappointed is that it doesn't have text-to-speech functionality, so you're not gonna hear, you know, street names. For such a high-end device, I'm really, kind of puzzled why it wasn't included. Directions are pretty good, the route calculations, somewhat a little more inefficient, so that's one thing to be aware of. Overall, a decent device, but I would say, I'm gonna wait maybe until the next version for text-to-speech functionality. It's available now though for $325. I'm Bonnie Cha and this has been your First Look of the Asus R700t. ^M00:01:19 [ Music ]

Asus R700t Review

The good: The Asus R700t portable navigation system features a slim design and has an integrated traffic receiver. You also get a complimentary subscription to the traffic services, integrated Bluetooth, and 3D building renderings.

The bad: The R700t doesn't include text-to-speech functionality, route recalculations weren't always efficient, and general performance can be slow at times.

The bottom line: For the company's first stab at the GPS market, the Asus R700t is an impressive debut, offering some great navigation features. However, we'd like to see the addition of text-to-speech functionality and smoother performance before completely committing to it.
