>> I'm Dan Ackerman, Senior Editor at CNET.com and we are taking a look at the Aces G1. The G of course stands for gamers and this is a gaming rig for somebody who wants a gaming laptop that's not quite the same as your everyday Alienware rigs, nice as those may be. You've got pretty much everything you need for a great gaming laptop. You've got a massive 17 inch screen, you've got pretty close to top of the line CPU and video chip options and you've got a full size keyboard which is essential for laptop gaming. In fact, this laptop is so gaming oriented, they've gone out of their way to highlight the all important WASD gaming keys by highlighting them in green right here. If you know what that means, well then you're a gamer. If not, there might be a nice Dell Latitude somewhere for ya. It's also got a brushed metal wrist rest and that material extends onto the laptop buttons, you can click them here and here, placing is a little awkward and you've got a little green eyeball here, staring up at you from between the mouse buttons, it doesn't do anything. I keep pressing it hoping it's a button, but it just kinda sits there and stares at you while you're doing whatever it is you do on your laptop. So you got all the standard features you're gonna need for a good multimedia experience. Typical transport control buttons for media down here. You've got quick launch buttons over by the monitor and if you can't be bothered to look at the time in the corner of your Windows screen, there's an OLED readout that will tell you what time it is. Flipping around to the back you're gonna find some cool stuff including VGA and DVI outputs, there's actually an S video over here on the side and you can also see some more of the little industrial design touches that make this so cool. Like the little metal rivets on the hinges and some green highlights that match some of the styling inside the case. And it's actually not basic black. If you look closely, there's a very subtle pattern on the lid and inside on the keyboard tray, it's kind of a black and gray honeycomb and it just adds a little bit of personality. Now this is not a thin and light laptop by any means, it's a full size desktop replacement, but if you're looking for a good gaming laptop and you don't wanna spend as much as you would on the big corporate name brands, you should check out what Aces has to offer. I'm Dan Ackerman and that's the Aces G1. ^M00:02:09 [ music ]

The Asus Eee Box is a novelty at best. It can't come close to the same performance and robustness of even the most basic standard budget PC, and a low-end laptop can do everything it can do and more.

Asus X83VB-X1

A poorly designed keyboard and stiff mouse buttons prevent a higher recommendation for the Asus X83VB-X1, which is an otherwise well-built 14-inch laptop that delivers chart-topping performance for a low price.

The design and portability of the Asus UL50AG make it one of the slickest 15.6-inch DVD-drive-equipped laptops we've seen, but an ultralow-voltage processor compromises its computing power.

The Asus U50F is one of the best values in Intel Core i3 laptops we've seen, offering a great all-around package for its price, save for shorter-than-average battery life.
