>> Hi, I'm Dan Ackman, senior editor at cnet.com, and this is the Asus E-E-E PC. Or maybe it's Eee! We don't really know. We'll get the Asus guys on the phone to clear that up. A couple of months ago people started buzzing about a $200 PC from Asus that would have a 7-inch display, run a version of LINUX, and be ultra portable. Well, it finally came out and it's closer to $400, but the system we got is pretty functional. It's got 512 Megs of RAM, it's got a 4-gig solid state hard drive, and it has a custom LINUX install that does pretty much anything you want it to do with an ultra cheap, ultra portable laptop computer. It's not particularly powerful, doesn't have a very large hard drive, but the pre-loaded software is enough so that it's great for kids or for grandparents, at least someone who can see the 7-inch screen, and basic web surfing and productivity and stuff like that. Let's take a look at some of the software that comes preloaded on the E-E-E. Thanks to the magic of LINUX we've got pretty much everything installed that we need. We have Firefox for web surfing which works great, basic Wi-Fi built in. Over on the Work tab, instead of most of the Microsoft Office it's got OpenOffice built in. And yep, everybody loves OpenOffice. So do I. That's great for working on Word documents, Excel documents, anything like that. Got a built in media player, even a web cam, and some built in games. So far my favorites are Potato Guy. Where we can build our little custom potato man. Let's give him a nice smile like that. Or my personal favorite, Crack Attack. I've got no idea how to play, I just like that it's called Crack Attack. Over here on the Systems tab you can see that we don't really have a lot of hard drive space left. Out of the 4 gigs we have maybe 1.3 left over because of the system install, but you do have an SD card slot right here on the side. You can just slide in another 4 gig SD card and double your hard drive space, which sounds like a pretty good idea. So it's got a couple of USB ports, a BG output, it's got Skype capabilities built in. This is not going to impress anybody with its speed or even style, but for 400 bucks if you want a good little machine that can search the web, work on office documents and you won't feel terrible if you accidentally leave it in the back seat pocket on the plane, there's always the Asus E-E-E. ^M00:02:04 [ Music ]
