>> I am Dan Ackerman, senior editor at CNET.com. And we are here with the eagerly awaited Asus Eee PC 900 that is the new 9-inch version of the popular Eee PC. Now if you remember the original Eee PC that had a 7-inch screen, while this new version obviously has a nine 9-screen even though they are pretty much exactly the same size. The new one is just a tiny, tiny bit bigger. There are a few other note worthy upgrades as well. The new Eee PC has a giga RAM as opposed to 512 in the original and the 4 gigs of Solid State hard drive space we saw on the first Eee PC is now 12 gigs in the Windows version and you actually get 20 gigs in the Linux version because you don't have to pay for a Windows XP license. Besides a bigger screen you also get a bigger touchpad and this new touchpad actually has some very mat like gesture controls. You load any your web page and scroll up and down with a two-finger gesture like this and you can also use two fingers in a pinching motion to zoom in and out on pictures. Now unfortunately not everything about the new Eee PC has been upgraded. We still have the same teeny tiny keyboard from the original and we still got that same old dated Celeron M processor. Intel and Via and some other companies have new ultra mobile processors coming out later this year we hope to see that in a future Eee upgrade. And of course the biggest disappointment for Eee PC fans is that at $550 this new Eee PC is just passed the point of an impulse purchase. I'm Dan Ackerman and that's the Asus Eee PC 900. ^M00:01:34 [ Music ]

Aluratek Tornado Plus

The Aluratek Tornado external hard drive is a RFID-secured hard-drive enclosure that doesn't have the performance or the innovation to warrant its expensive price tag. We don't recommend the poorly designed Tornado since the competition offers more storage space and a higher level of security at less cost.

If the Shuttle XPC X100 had come out when it was announced six months ago, we'd like it a lot better. Competing systems such as the WinBook Jiv Mini pack more features into a smaller package, but the trade-off is less RAM and hard-drive space.

Asus Essentio CM5570-AP002

The Asus Essentio CM5570-AP002 isn't an overly remarkable desktop, but it has a few extra features that help it stand out. Its Wi-Fi and HDMI video out port give it some unique capabilities, and the best part is that Asus still manages to keep the price down. It's hard not to like this system, even though we wish Asus had more comprehensive support.
