>> Dan: Hi, I'm Dan Ackerman and we're here taking a look at the new Asus Eee PC 1000HE. Now, of course, Asus pretty much invented the NetBook market with their original 7 inch Eee PC and then they had the 9 inch and 10 inch but in kind of the year and half since that happened a lot of other companies came and had their own NetBooks that maybe innovated a little bit more, were a little more design-friendly so the Eee PC line were starting to look a little bit dated. Asus is now come back and given it a fairly nice update so we have a new Eee PC called the HE and the first thing you're gonna notice about it is this new keyboard the keys are flat they're a little bit spaced apart kind of what you'd find on a MacBook or a Sony laptop. And, of course, they put the shift key back in the right place which was a big complaint about a lot of these kind of compact NetBook keyboards, it's a lot easier to use. If you take a look at some of the other really inexpensive NetBooks like the Acer Aspire 1 they kind of cheap out on the touch-pad, they're very small, the buttons are hard to hit here you it's got a nice big touch-pad, brushed medal buttons that are actually very easy to hit, it's a nice mousing moving around the screen experience. Something going on under the hood you might not know about is that this is one of the first NetBooks that has the faster newer version of Intel's Adam CPU, it's a little bit faster clock speed wise than the older version of the Adam. In actual practical use you're really not gonna notice the difference but you're gonna see the Adam CPU slowly ratchet up and become faster and more powerful and hopefully able to do more stuff. The one metric that the Asus Eee PC have always had a really well on is battery life and you know what they're a little thicker, they're a little chunkier than some of the other NetBooks out there that's because they work in a big 6 cell battery. And actually this new redesign does a pretty good job of hiding that bulk in the back; this is a big 6 cell battery and Asus says you can get up to 9 1/2 hours of use from it and that's, of course, if you follow their fairly stringent standards which means turning the brightness down to like 40%, turning off WiFi, turning off Bluetooth, but even in regular normal human being use we got 6 hours out of this which is great even for a little tiny low-power NetBook. I'm Dan Ackerman and that's the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. ^E00:02:05
