Is Apple's TV really coming in 2013...or not at all? Video Transcript

-Hey Jim, do you have my microphone. I-- I can't find it. Well-- -Ryan, you really think I look like Jim? -No. No. Charlie-- No, I-- -You idiot. -I was just-- It's a mistake. What's happening? Brian Tong here and welcome to the Apple Byte for all the good and bad inside the world of Apple. And with Thanksgiving Holiday happening in the U.S., I just wanted to tell you that I'm thankful for all of you, the Apple Byters that-- that mean so much. Alright, let's get to the show and-- If it happens, we've been telling you 2013 will be the year for the Apple TV, but when can we expect it? Well, my favorite analyst who loves to make up things, Gene Munster, is back at it; now saying the Apple TV is coming out in November 2013. This is the same guy that was saying it would come out in December 2012 for sure. See, I wish I could get paid to make up fake news too. Now, the Apple TV will only be a unique offering if they're able to lock down the content deals for their goal of an ala-carte TV subscription service over the internet. That's what Apple needs to do to have their next big product. Now, if it doesn't happen, you're just looking at an Apple-designed TV with a mediocre Siri feature and the functionality of a current Apple TV at Apple's pricing. Is that what you guys really want? Well, we know Apple is taking with content and cable companies, but they want piles of money to make it happen. And it's not happening right now. So, my best guess is that we'll see an Apple TV in 2013 if they can lock down more than just a few, but not all content deals to make it compelling. We know ABC Disney is obviously in, but it really has to be more than that. And if you guys are holding off right now on buying a TV, hoping for something from Apple, don't. Alright. So, you guys can get an Apple TV, TV, but if you really love your kids, your nieces, or nephews, I know some of you do, you might want to pay attention to this Nielsen study where iOS devices were 4 of the top 5 gadgets wanted by kids 6 to 12 years old with the full-sized iPad ranked #1. Kids 13 and up picked the iPad as their top gift followed by a computer and the tablet other than an iPad was third. Now, if they surveyed what I want for Christmas, they would know it's a Dippin' Dots Frozen Dot Maker. -Cool creation. Lots of fun. Lots of taste sensation. -You know you want one. Now, Black Friday is going to be huge and Apple will have their own deals this year. They teased them once again this week, but don't look for anything major. And discounts off Apple product is somewhere around 10 to 15 percent. Last year saw discounts from 40 to 60 dollars off iPads and discounts around $100 off laptops, so look for more of the same. Also, if you're still wondering where are the new iMacs, multiple reports say there are no delays and the 21.5-inch iMacs are shipping to Apple distribution hubs right now. They'll be available online and in Apple retail stores before November ends with the 27-inch still on track for December and hopefully it's not the end of December. It's expected the new iMacs will also be in short supply initially and Tim Cook warned analysts about it in Apple's last earnings call. Now, very early builds of OS 10.9 have been detected on multiple websites. And according to 9to5Mac, these early builds currently integrate Apple Siri. Mountain lion currently supports the dictation feature, but nothing resembling Siri. They also say Apple maps will be integrated into OS 10.9 and this map kit framework would potentially allow developers to embed map functionality into their apps for the Mac like they do on iOS apps. And since we're talking about maps on iOS, we told you about Nokia's new offering last week for their free hear maps. It's available now to download and you could check it out, but its current rating is at a lowly 2.5 stars and it requires you to create an account to add favorite destinations. Now, Facebook is also slowly rolling out their photo sync feature for iOS users that android users have enjoyed and now allows you to upload automatically all the pictures that you've taken on your iPhone to a private photo album on Facebook with 2 gigs of complimentary storage. And yes, those pictures are private by default. It's not officially available to everyone just yet, but keep your eyes open. Alright guys, let's get to the winners for our Incase iPad Mini case giveaway. Congrats go out to Taytay Davis, sweet name; Charles Altman whose son is a fan and Charles says he raps to iPhone 5 on it; Ellen Boulanger gets one because I said so; and Amy Maghera who writes in with so, what is up with this new iPad Mini? I mean, come on, I'm sure that you agree, but size does matter. Oh well, still gotta cover it. Amy, I'm really disappointed in you. My mom watches this show and you still get a case. And for those of you who didn't win, Incase is still hooking all of you up, the Apple Byters, with a 25% off discount code off everything at goincase.com. Just use the code, Apple Byte 25, and it's good through December 1st. We also got this e-mail from Peter [unk]. He writes in with people up here in Minnesota say we look alike. I think it's just because we're Asian. My coworkers kept changing my profile picture to a picture of you for the longest time. Perhaps this is what you would look like without facial hair and bleached hair. Peter, we look nothing alike. Actually, he looks a lot better like a lot. Jamie, really? Okay, but you know Peter, to prove this, I did a little something and this is what you would look like with facial hair and bleached spiked hair. Okay. I stand corrected. Maybe we actually do look alike. Alright guys, that's gonna do it for this week's show. I'm Brian Tong. E-mail us at the applebyte@cnet.com and we'll have a killer promo next week for you. Thanks for watching and start enjoying the holidays with your family, friends, loved ones. We'll catch you guys next time for another byte of the apple. Hey, Jamie, Jamie, where you going? What-- -What? -Jamie-- -What? -What the-- -What are you doing here? -Oh, I thought-- -You thought I was who? Idiot! -What?! Well, you guys look like you're dressed-- -Look nothing alike. -Okay.
