>> Dan Ackman: Hi, I'm Dan Ackman, and we're here with Apple's new 13-inch Macbook Pro. That's right, the 13-inch Macbook we met last year, the one built into this aluminum unibody chassis, has now been renamed the Macbook Pro and, you know, that makes sense to us because the 13-inch Macbooks and the 15-inch Macbook Pros really were very similar. There was only a very fine line separating them. And this has given Apple a chance to sort of add some extra features to this to definitely make it a machine worthy of the Pro name. The first thing you're gonna notice is the addition of an SD card slot, something we've been bugging Apple to add for a long time. They've also brought back the firewire port, which was conspicuously missing from the last generation of these 13-inch Macbooks. You still get the backlit keyboard, which is something previously you only got in the more expensive 13-inch models. Now, it's on any of the 13-inch Macbook Pros, and that's great. And of course, the edge-to-edge glass on the display, a little glossy for our taste sometimes. And the oversized tri-pad that has those cool gestures where you can move your windows around using these four-finger gestures like that. There are also some slight bumps in the processor options available and they even cut the starting price on the cheapest 13-inch Macbook Pro. It's like $1149 from $1299, which makes this an even better deal. One trade-off you'll wanna watch out for is the sealed battery compartment on the bottom. No more changing the battery yourself, although Apple claims their new batteries will last 40 percent longer than their older ones under some circumstances, and you can recharge them like 1,000 times before they need to be replaced. Hopefully that's long enough to get you to your next Macbook. So adding new features while you're cutting the price is always a plus in our book, and that's why we find this guy one of the most universally useful laptops available. 17-inch unibody MacBook Pro is unveiled
At Macworld Expo 2009 in San Francisco, Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of marketing, announces a MacBook Pro that features a nonremovable battery designed to last about eight hours between charges. The starting price of the new notebook, which comes with either 4GBs or 8GBs of memory, is $2,799, the same as that of the old 17-inch model. It is set to begin shipping by the end of the month.
