-Hi. I'm Rich Brown, Senior Editor for cnet.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at Apple's 21.5-inch Imac. This is the most affordable model an Apple's updated Imac line. It comes with the 2.4 giga hertz Intel core i5 CPU as well as the new Thunderbolt input, which in the future will allow very fast connectivity between the external devices and the system. For now, this is the very fast, very good looking all in one for a relatively affordable price. You can see that the design hasn't change in design actually from the previous model; so, as the same aluminum and glass construction. We also like the display quite a bit. It's very bright and the 1920 x 1080 resolution ensure you'll get full quality HD video. So most of the features of the Imac are the same, it comes with the wireless mouse and keyboard. Up here we have the web cam and the new Imac-- it's actually FaceTime compatible. You might be familiar with that from your iPhone or your iPad and lets you video chat between devices. On the side of the Imac, there is also the SD card slot as well as the DVD burner. Now you can see the one external change to the Imac in the back of the case, right here is the brand new Thunderbolt port that replaces the mini display port that used to be on the older Imac. Now Thunderbolt is actually mini display port compatible, but it also allows for all kinds of other data connection. There are no Thunderbolts devices out there just yet, but in the near future we expected external storage, video hubs, as well as other devices. Probably the beginning of the geared mostly for professionals. Data ports in the back remain the same as before. You get 2 audio ports, 4 USB 2.0, as well as FireWire 800 output. There is also an internet port here and built in of course is 802.11n wireless. Now you'll find the Windows all in one as the same price ranges as the 1199 Imac and they come in Blu-ray drive, HDMI in puts, touch screen, as well as other features that make them more a little bit more digital medial friendly. This Imac though is really geared towards professionals and anyone who needs fast performance from an all in one. Our performance test, the Imac blew away pretty much all of its Windows basic competition. You might still get a little bit more performance side of a standard desktop, but you certainly won't get the good looks. So, I'm Rich Brown, this is Apple's new 21.5-inch Imac.

Like other Windows-based all-in-ones, Averatec's All-in-One can't compete with the iMac for sheer power. The Averatec's larger screen and few features it has that Apple doesn't might be enough to sell you, but the iMac remains the all-in-one to beat.
Apple's takes it already compelling iMac and beefs up the design and updated the under-the-hood components. The result is the best-looking PC on the market, that also compares very favorably against its Windows-based competition.
Apple iMac summer 2010 (21.5 inch)
Apple has elected to keep its iMac firmly grounded as a productivity device. You'll find few home entertainment conveniences in the new entry-level iMac, and you can find larger screens in other all-in-ones systems for less. Few will offer performance like this iMac, though, and none look as pretty, making it easy to recommend for general purpose computing and for the design conscious.
Own a 27-inch iMac? Dying to connect a game console, Blu-ray player, or other HDMI-equipped device? Cursing Apple for using Mini DisplayPort instead of HDMI for video input? The situation might be frustrating, but that doesn't make the Kanex XD adapter less effective. We recommend it to those looking to bridge the gap between the living room and their large iMac.
CNET's Rich Brown gives Apple's latest iMac offering an Editor's Choice for its sharp design and great performance.
Apple iMac 27-inch (27-inch, 2.8GHz Intel Core i7, fall 2009)
We're a little late to the Core i7 iMac review party, but that doesn't make Apple's highest-end all-in-one any less impressive. With the fastest CPU and the largest display in its category, we find our criticisms of this system mostly wash away in a tide of pixels and best-in-class performance. Anyone with a productivity focus will appreciate what this iMac has to offer.
New 21.5-inch iMac faces stiff Windows competition
An appealing new design and up-to-date components can't save Apple's new 21.5-inch iMac from its cutthroat, feature-rich Windows-based competitors.
Ep. 864: Where there's Lion pie in my eye
Wilson's especially giddy today because Apple just released two new MacBook Airs and a pair of new Mac Minis that all feature a data port for high-speed Thunderbolt peripherals. On today's episode, we're also talking about Rupert Murdoch's pie in the face, a social network for Anonymous hackers called AnonPlus, and the proper way to teach your parents how to use modern technology.
Apple's new $1,999 iMac comes with a faster CPU and a new graphics card, helping this 27-inch all-in-one desktop stay as competitive in performance as it already was in screen size. Despite the still-frustrating absence of an HDMI port, we have no qualms recommending this system for work or play.
The Apple Thunderbolt Display is an incredibly performing and beautiful-looking monitor that gives up any Windows compatibility for a superfast connection.
Apple iMac 21.5-inch (2.5GHz, spring 2011) Review
The good: As the most-affordable iMac, the Apple iMac 21.5-inch offers competitive speed, the unique potential of its Thunderbolt port, and Apple's trademark design leadership.
The bad: The 21.5-inch iMac isn't the best all-in-one for home entertainment, and its performance competitiveness suffers without an option for more video memory.
The bottom line: Apple's $1,199 iMac doesn't offer the same home entertainment features as Windows-based all-in-ones, but its speed, looks, and the future utility of its Thunderbolt port make it a strong choice for performance-sensitive professionals.
