Amped Wireless (R10000G) Video Transcript
Hello. This is Dong Ngo for CNET.com and I have something extreme to show you today, the R1000G Router from Amped Wireless. Now that's a lot of zero but that is not what's extreme about this router. But first, now take a look at how normal it is. This is a standard router with squared shape and it's made of plastic that is kind of flimsy. If you squeeze it, it makes some noise but don't do it at home though. On the bottom here, the router has 4 feet for it to stay flat on any surface but it also comes with 2 holes for you to mount on the wall and it comes with a base, a small base. Now, the base is very small and the router is very light so it's hard for the whole package to stay on the surface in a vertical position without toppling pretty easily. On the back here, the router come with 4 LAN ports and 1 WAN port. All of them are gigabit. As the router comes with 2 cables plugged into at WAN port and to LAN port to make it easy for people to set up. Also go back to the bottom here, you can find the label that show all the information you would need on how to get up and running. So what is so special about this router? Here comes the 2 extra large antenna. This are detachable but they have to attach to the router to make it work. You can just screw them in like this. Screw them in slowly one at a time. So this 2 antennas plus the power inside the router offer extreme range. In fact I couldn't figure out how long the range was in my testing because my office is on the 6th floor and I could get only as far as 350 feet from the router before having to jump out of the building which I didn't do and the router top that distance. So basically this router offer the longest range I've ever seen. In fact, it's so long that this is the only router I've ever seen that comes with a feature that allows you to reduce it's power in case all that range is too much to bare for you. Now as a wireless router, this is single band router that works only on a 2.4 gigahertz band. In my testing, it offer a decent WiFi performance. Not too fast, not too slow but definitely more than good enough for sharing the internet for the price of around $150. The router would be kinda expensive without the range but with the range, is a great investment for anybody who want to cover a large amount of space. Also check out the full review at CNET.com if you find out more about how the router performs and other features. Once again, my name is Dong Ngo and this has been the first look of the R10000G Wireless router from Amped Wireless.
