>> Hi, I'm David Carnoy, Executive Editor for CNET.com and I'm here with the Altec Lansing Expressionist Classic FX2020 multimedia speakers. These are really kind of cool looking PC speakers. They have a distinct design. They have a sort of a tube-shaped back, it extends about 5.75 inches, so they're a little bit deeper than some PC speakers and also have this translucent plastic, it got a little tint to it that surrounds them at the front and keeps them standing up. These are more entry level speakers, they don't cost all that much. They're really sub $80 speakers and they have one driver, a 3-inch driver. You're not gonna get a ton of bass out of these guys and they're not incredibly detailed, but we found them to be pretty decent especially at lower and mid-volumes. So, when you get the volume a little bit higher up the sound starts to -- it will rough around the edges and it doesn't fill a room with big, rich, sound like you might expect, but when you're sitting at your computer and you're just a few feet away it sound pretty decent. In terms of buttons, there aren't a whole lot of them. The Power On/Off switch is on the back of the right speaker along with a volume controls that are on the top of that same speaker, they're a little bit rubberized. Were on the back, there are 2 ports. There's an auxiliary port and an input, wants to plug these guys into your laptop or desktop PC. Your other inputs are there in case you wanna plug in an iPod. This is not a dockable system, but you can play any portable device through these speakers. This come with a power adapter, these are not USB speakers, so you do have to plug them in. Again these have a very unique kind of industrial design and it's really that design that's gonna probably sway a lot of people towards buying these. They sound pretty good for the money and they're pretty decent value especially if you can get them for a slight discount off their list price. So those are the Altec Lansing Expressionist Classic FX2020 PC speakers. ^M00:01:58 [ Music ]

The good: Distinct design; affordably priced; relatively decent sound at lower to mid volumes.
The bad: Not terribly detailed; sound gets a little rough around the edges at higher volumes.
The bottom line: Altec Lansing's Expressionist Classic FX2020 PC speakers may not blow you away with their sound quality, but their distinctive look will win them some fans.
