>> Hi I'm David Carnoy executive editor for CNET dot com and I'm here to give you a quick video tour of the Altec Lansing Expressionist Bass PC multimedia speakers. These are some of the cooler looking PC speakers we've seen recently; they have kind of a retro futuristic look to them. Now Altec Lansing's motto for the system is 'all the bass in half the space' and what that's all about is there are 2 subwoofers in the bottom of these speakers, there's no separate subwoofer. So this is a 2 speaker system but there is a lot of bass in these speakers. There's a 1 point 5 inch driver at the top, and there are 4 inch subwoofers on the bottom. The speakers are actually hard wired together; it has about a 6 foot cord so you do have some flexibility in placement of the speakers. Around back you'll find an audio input for your PC as well as an auxiliary input if you want to connect another audio device. Anything that has an audio output, you will be able to connect to these speakers with a minijack connection. On top of the right speaker is where you're going to find the volume controls and the power on/off control. This system doesn't come with a remote however, some PC speakers do these days and it would have been nice to have one but it's not necessarily the end of the world. In terms of sound quality, what's interesting about these speakers is that indeed they do deliver a lot of bass and you can play them really pretty loud. One thing we did find was that the treble was a little bit harsh and it's pretty aggressive at higher volumes, and some people may find that irritating. So we didn't find these to be the best speakers for music necessarily, but we did find that when it came to gaming and watching movies, that these really did a lot better - that bass really punched those explosions up, especially in the first person shooters where that treble isn't such an issue. I'm David Carnoy and these are the Altec Lansing Expressionist Bass PC speakers. [ music ]

Altec Lansing Expressionist Bass FX3022 Review
The good: Impressive, striking design; subwoofers are built into the base of each speaker, which provides ample amount of bass; more suited to gaming and movie watching than music listening.
The bad: Treble is aggressive and brash; no remote.
The bottom line: While the great-looking Altec Lansing Expressionist Bass FX3022 multimedia speakers fall a little short for music listening, their potent bass makes them a better choice for gaming and movie watching.
