>> Hi. I'm David Carnoy, executive editor for CNET.com, and I'm here to give you a very quick tour of the Altec Lansing BackBeat 206 earphones. A lot of people are looking for earbud replacements for their iPod earbuds, and these are the soft tip ride, so they're very comfortable. They seal out noise really well. And for the money, they sound very good. They're about $30.00. They come with three different size soft eartips. The BackBeat 326 is the step-up model, come with an extra tip as well as a protective carrying case, but that's -- there really isn't that much difference between the two. The step-up model sounds a little bit better. There's a little bit more bass. For the money, both of them sound very good, but if you want to save a little bit of money, this one costs $10.00 less. One of the things that distinguishes these earphones from some other earphones is they have a cloth covering, sort of a mesh instead of plastic, over the wires. In theory, these should last a little bit longer than the ones that do have that plastic. The one problem, however, is that if they do rub up against your clothing, they will make a little bit of sound. The cord has a little slider in the middle that allows you to add a little tension. If you want to actually make a little choker out of it for your neck, you can. I'm David Carnoy, and those are the Altec Lansing BackBeat 206 earphones. ^M00:01:16 [ Music ]

Altec Lansing BackBeat Plus UHP206 - headphones Review

The good: The Altec Lansing BackBeat Plus 206 earphones offer a comfortable fit; impressive sound for the money; and a durable, cloth-covered cord.

The bad: When the BackBeat Plus 206's cloth cord rubs against your clothing, you can sometimes hear that rubbing sound if your MP3 player is set to low volumes or during the silence between songs; no carrying case is included.

The bottom line: Although Altec Lansing's BackBeat Plus 206 earbuds may be a slight step down from the BackBeat 326 earphones, they offer very good sound for the money.
