>> Antuan Goodwin: I'm Antuan Goodwin with CNET Car Tech and we're live on the floor at CES 2009 in our Car Tech test booth. And now basically what we're doing is we're installing stereos in our cars so we can test them and today we've got our Alpine iDA-X305 Digital Media Head Units. Now when I say "digital media receiver," I mean really digital media receiver. And that's because all of your audio is going to come in through the USB port. That means either USB key drives, your MP3 players, your iPod players or now your iPhone 3G because the iDA-X305 has added the Works With iPhone Certification. That means that it will now play off of your iPhone without any issues and it will also charge. Now pulling your music off of your iPod or iPhone is a pretty simple thing. You've got the big 2-way encoder in the middle with a big search button. You'll be able to hit that button, pull up your artist, genre, track information, albums and scroll through it pretty quickly. Now if you've got a huge, huge music collection like I do or most people do, you'll be able to search through it pretty quickly with the alphabet search or with the percentage search that should let you pretty quickly jump to 10 percent, 50 percent, 70 percent marks in your music collection. So you can get all the way down to the bottom or all the way to the middle fairly quickly. And that's all activated right here in the -- with the 2-way encoder. Now the iDA-X305 also has this big beautiful color LCD monitor that will show you album artwork. It will show you album artwork with track information as well and it will also show you cool digital flip clock. It's also future ready so you can add on things like HD radio receivers, satellite radio receivers, and Bluetooth hands free. You've got buttons right here on the front that control all of those things so it works pretty quickly. You've also got an updated aesthetic with a really nice chrome trim. It looks a whole lot better than the already good looking iDA-X100. We really like the Alpine Digital Media line of receivers and this newest one pretty much takes a couple of the [inaudible] that we had with the old one, and just really kind of ironed them out. And it looks a lot better so looks count a lot for me. Well I'm Antoine Goodwin, and we're on the floor at CES 2009 in the CNET Car Tech Test Booth.

Alpine iDA-X305 Review
The good: The Alpine iDA-X305's two-way encoder control scheme and QuickSearch function makes it possible to scrub through large libraries in seconds. Add-on modules allow the feature set to be extended.
The bad: The lack of a CD player may be a turn off for many people.
The bottom line: For people who listen primarily to MP3/WMA/AAC audio, the Alpine iDA-X305 offers one of the easiest-to-use interfaces for in-car browsing of digital media.
