>> When was the last time you walked in a store and walked out with a physical CD? Just taking you all to remember that, you probably have the car stereo for you. The Alpine iDA-X100 digital media receiver is a purely digital head unit. There's no CD player at all. Instead you'd use a USB pigtail with full-speed iPod connection to browse your music off of your digital music player. A full color display just shows album artwork and track information and a big knob in the middle allows easy searching of albums, artists and even your podcast. Alpine calls it their Double Action Encoder. The iDA-X100 supports any format that your iPod does including MP3, AAC even the DRM files and Apple's lossless format. If you're an audiophile you're gonna love that last one because most of the units we test don't actually support the lossless format. If you don't have an iPod, the iDA-X100 also supports any USB mass storage device or MP3 player. Optional add-ons include HD radio, satellite radio and Bluetooth hands-free modules. With 18-watts coming out of four channels, 50 watts max, the Alpine iDA-X100 is a good player for people who carry around all their music on a digital media player. This is the Alpine iDA-X100 and I'm Antuan Goodwin. ^M00:01:26 [ Music ]

Alpine iDA-X100 Digital Media Receiver Review
The good: The Alpine iDA-X100 features a full-speed USB/iPod connection for speedy browsing of songs with the large search knob. Percent Search mode allows for quick scrubbing through long lists. Alpine Imprint audio processing allows drivers a great deal of freedom to adjust audio for best possible sound.
The bad: The iDA-X100 occasionally forgets that an iPod device is attached if the vehicle is started or stopped while a podcast is playing. The lack of an optical disc player can be a bit of an inconvenience for some users.
The bottom line: The Alpine iDA-X100 is a great receiver for people who transport all of their music on an iPod or MP3 player. The unit offers fantastic digital-audio integration without the need for a separate adapter, but should you ever want to just play a CD, you'll be out of luck.
