>> Nicole: I'm Nicole Lee, Associate Editor for CNET.com and this is a first look at the Aliph Jawbone Prime Bluetooth headset. The Aliph Jawbone Prime is very similar in design to the Aliph Jawbone 2 from about a year ago. As you can see the design aesthetic's very similar, very light and compact. The all black design is very attractive except the Jawbone Prime has a very different pattern surface on the front here. It also has a new dimpled part at the top here which indicates the multi-function button. On the top here is the nice [inaudible] button which also acts as the volume button. On the back here is a new ear gel it's a very different design from the old school design here; this one has a new loop on the top here to fit a little bit more snuggly in the ear. Also on the back is this tiny little white nub which is the voice activity sensor; this means that when you wear the headset you have to have this little white nub touching your cheek so that it will enhance and improve the quality of your voice to your listeners. The Aliph Jawbone Prime also comes with a variety of other ear gel options. It also has the traditional optional ear hook for better comfort. The Aliph Jawbone Prime has several improvements over its predecessor, for example, it has better noise canceling, better handling of wind noise and the ear gel is definitely more comfortable as well. Also another improvement is that you don't necessarily have to have the voice activity sensor on your cheek to have really good noise canceling, however, with this new model even it isn't touching your face the noise cancellation will still be pretty good. We tested the Jawbone Prime in a variety of situations, in a quiet environment, on the city streets as well as a moving vehicle and in front of a loud indoor fan to test the wind noise. In almost all situations the sound quality was really good, however, it wasn't as clear as we would like and the wind noise handling wasn't as good as the one on the Plantronics Voyager Pro. So overall the Aliph Jawbone Prime is a very attractive headset, it fits comfortably in the ear and it has excellent sound quality even though it's not as good as the Plantronics Voyager Pro. It's around $130 retail, it's a little bit more expensive than the Voyager Pro which is around $100 but you do get a very attractive headset with pretty good sound quality. Aliph Jawbone Prime Bluetooth headset Review
The good: The Aliph Jawbone Prime is a highly fashionable headset with a snug fit, plus it has better noise-cancellation and wind noise handling over its predecessor, resulting in even better sound quality.
The bad: We're not thrilled with the hidden buttons on the Jawbone Prime, and the singular volume button is a bit annoying. The volume is a little softer than we would like at times. While it has excellent call quality, you can get cheaper headsets that are on par or better.
The bottom line: The Aliph Jawbone Prime is a great Bluetooth headset that combines high style with high performance.
