Alcatel One Touch Idol 2 series Video Transcript
Hello world. I'm Seamus Byrne for CNET at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona. And we're looking at the Alcatel One Touch range and their Idol 2 series. There are four variations in the Idol 2 series. The Idol 2-- the Idol 2 S, the Idol 2 Mini, and the Idol 2 Mini S. The S series introduces LTE to the Idol range. The full-sized Idol 2 is a 5-inch qHD IPS smartphone with a quad-core 1.3GHz processor, 1 gig of RAM and 8 gigs or 16 gigs of internal storage, depending on whether you get a single or dual SIM model. MicroSD is only in the single SIM device. You get an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera here as well as Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. The Idol 2 S is the model I'm holding here. This has a better 720p IPS display, but a slightly slow 1.2GHz processor and 720p front camera, and it launches with Android 4.3 instead of 4.2. The Idol 2 Mini is a 4.5-inch qHD IPS display with the 1.2GHz quad-core with other specs in line with the Idol 2. The Idol 2 Mini S is much the same spec with the LTE added and a slightly bigger battery to cope with the LTE performance needs. The Mini S has a nicer design though, with a metal back giving it a much more premium feel than the other models. So the Idol 2 range is available very soon worldwide. The Idol 2 will be priced at 199 for the standard model, Euros, and 249 Euros for the S model. That translates to around $275 and $350 respectively. The Idol 2 Mini will be priced at around 169 Euros and 209 Euros for the S model. That translates to about $235 and $290. I think the new Alcatel One Touch Idol 2 range does feel really nice in the hands. Given their price points, they should perform quite well this year.
