>> Hi, I'm Elsa Wenzel, Associate Editor at CNET.com. We're taking a look at Adobe Acrobat 8. These days you can create a pdf file using all sorts of software and free services. Still, Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, offers some new business friendly features that you cannot yet get elsewhere. Finally, Acrobat 8 provides what we think is a long overdue feature. Too many times when you run across a form online, such as a conference registration, you're forced to open a pdf file in Acrobat Reader, then print it, fill it out by hand and finally turn in the hard copy via snail mail or fax, which is a pretty inconvenient work around. But at last, Acrobat 8 takes the paper out of this process. You can create forms that people will be able to fill out online and send to you on the spot. This requires no coding expertise. In about 15 minutes, we created a basic pdf form from a template. Then we posted it to a website and we finally received a sample form submission in our email inbox. Acrobat 8 offers security features that little pdf making tools cannot provide. In the past, even the Pentagon leaked censored information through a pdf on it's website. That's because somebody originally used Microsoft Word to give text a black background color as shown here. But all you have to do is to change that background color later or cut and paste that text to reveal the hidden words. However, now Acrobat 8 shown here, allows you to permanently black out or redact text. First you select text, then you mark it for read action. Next you apply the read action. You might also want to examine the document and apply other security features such as password protection to that pdf. However, if many Acrobat users wise up and begin using those read actions properly, investigators and journalists might have a harder time finding out who stole the cookies from the cookie jar among other secrets. I'm Elsa Wenzel and this was Adobe Acrobat 8. ^M00:02:48 [ music ]
