>> Hi, I'm Rich Brown, Senior Editor for CNET.com. Today we're gonna talk about the Acer Aspire L310. As you can see, this is a pretty small computer. There are definitely others like it on the market but it continues the trend of packing a relatively powerful system into a small package. Now inside the system you'll find an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1 gig of memory and a pretty sizable hard drive. We wouldn't really recommend it for gaming or heavy duty media editing type stuff, but it's a decent enough computer and should get you through pretty much whatever you want. The one little hitch is Windows Vista. Because it has an integrated graphics chip, it really won't do the high end Windows Vista visuals. Now because of the small form factor of this system, you might be tempted to stick it in your living room and actually you can take off this bottom piece here and stick it down on it's side to lie flat. But it's really not powerful enough to be a true home theater desktop. Now the front of the system you'll see a DVD burner and behind this little door you'll see a media card reader. It's a pretty convenient way to swap files between digital cameras and other mobile devices. And on the back of the system you'll see a connection for a wireless networking antenna as well as a DVI out. One feature you won't see though is an input for a cable TV signal. The system doesn't have the TV tuner which we've actually seen in small systems of this kind. So that seems to be a feature that Acer left out. Now this is not the most future rich system we've seen in this form factor. Apple's Mac Mini and a couple systems from other vendors have more exciting things going on. And HP actually has a small system that can take a full size graphics card, giving it much more flexibility. Still, you can get this system for under 1000 dollars and as a basic Vista computer that won't take up a lot of space, it's not half bad. So I'm Rich Brown and that's the Acer Aspire L310. ^M00:01:36 [ music ]

The good: Sleek, compact design that can lie flat or stand upright; built-in Wi-Fi; one of the least expensive PCs of its kind.
The bad: Tightly packed interior doesn't lend itself to upgrades.
The bottom line: The Aspire L310 works as a trim, affordable computer that will also serve light home-theater-PC duties. It doesn't offer as much room for improvement as its competition, but as long as you don't have plans for upgrading or running Windows Vista full bore, this system will serve you well.
