original name was the ARPANET. It first linked four nodes at the University of Utah, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and Stanford in September of 1969.

yes it was ARPAnet, a small military network. Then they saw the potential of the invention and.... you know what happened. Internet-o-vation. Take that Macbook air! =))

Although most people have said Arpamet, it didn't operate on TCP/IP, so the word "original name" is a little loose.

It might be more accurate to use NSFNet, as someone on that network could actually be *on* the Internet today (and are!) If you were on Arpamet, you probably needed some firmware updates by now :)
