Top 5 video game characters

This could potentially be one of the more controversial top fives we've done. Video games are as notorious as comic books for starting arguments when you try to pick the best and worst, or deal with who would win in a fight. But the overwhelming response to this one makes me feel safer about who's in and who's ranked.

However I fully expect to hear from every fan of the video game characters that didn't make the list. Because let's face it, there are more than five good video game characters. So let your thoughts be known, but try to be gentle.

And among your comments, be sure to answer the lame prize question.

by daedbird December 7, 2009 11:53 AM PST: I have no complaints about this list........I forgot Link (I am a Sega guy, so Zelda wasn't in my collection), but I figured Sonic three and Mario one. I think the only one that could be debated is No. 5, but who else you going to choose? PacMan has no character qualities (the cartoon doesn't count) so many other characters are based on outside media like movies or cartoons, and too many of the other possibilities didn't reach past one generation of gaming consoles........; Like this Reply to this comment

Obvious choices really. :-) Being old school I might have chosen Pac Man/Ms. Pac Man, Ryu (Street Fighter series) or Lara Croft (Tomb Raider series) over the #4 and #5... but one must move along with the times.
