Microsoft to further integrate Yammer with Office this summer

Buried in a press release on Yammer momentum are a couple of new details about Microsoft's plans for integrating Yammer with SkyDrive Pro and Office Web Apps by summer 2013.

From the February 20 press release:

"SkyDrive Pro was previewed at the recent SharePoint Conference, and Yammer is implementing it as the underlying platform for file storage. In addition, Yammer is enhancing the ability to preview and edit files directly within Yammer feeds using Office Web Apps. Microsoft's jazzed up Office to run on tablets, cloud

With the newest version of Office, Microsoft is touting more flexibility regarding where and on what device you can access its key productivity software.

Office remains a crown jewel for Microsoft, and its latest revamp puts the software in line with the new Microsoft look, where it fits in with Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and the updated Xbox, among other products. While Office remains a dominant product used by most people in businesses, it faces competition from low-cost alternatives, including Google's suite of Web-based office applications.

Microsoft acquires corporate social network Yammer for $1.2B

[UPDATED at 1:14 p.m. PT]

The rumors were right. Microsoft announced on June 25 it has bought enterprise social networking vendor Yammer for $1.2 billion.

Yammer will join the Microsoft Office Division, led by division President Kurt DelBene, and the team will continue to report to current Yammer CEO David Sacks, according to a Microsoft statement.

I doubt seriously whether Microsoft will be integrating any of Yammer's technology into Office 2013, as the client, server and services that are part of this wave are already quite far along in development. A public beta of Office 2013 … Read more

Microsoft reportedly in $1 billion deal for Yammer

Microsoft has agreed to acquire business software company Yammer for more than $1 billion, a person familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.

The report did not indicate when the acquisition is expected to be announced or completed.

Yammer representatives declined to comment. CNET has also contacted Microsoft for comment and will update this report when we learn more.

Rumors abound that Microsoft might buy Yammer

Several people were overheard yammering today that Microsoft is supposedly acquiring the business social network Yammer, according to Business Insider.

Near Yammer's office, at the Caltrain station in San Francisco, people were reportedly heard talking about the possible buyout, according to Business Insider. Later, a woman named Sarah Taylor tweeted that she also eavesdropped on people talking about it at The Creamery, a coffee shop near Yammer's office.

That's not all, Business Insider reports that a source inside Yammer has also said that Microsoft is in the works of buying the startup.

Yammer acquires OneDrum for Google Docs, Office tools

Yammer is expanding its repertoire of file-sharing and collaboration services for businesses with the acquisition of OneDrum.

The U.K.-based startup brings even more social-minded work tools to the enterprise social network. OneDrum has developed a peer-to-peer desktop application that connects Google Docs with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), enabling users to be able to collaborate, co-edit and share these documents in real time.

Yammer's $25K Yahoo bounty finds first takers

When Yahoo launched its giant patent lawsuit against Facebook a few weeks back, David Sacks, the CEO and founder of Yammer, took to Twitter to blast out an offer to any Yahoo employees pissed at their company's ways: Quit your job within 60 days, he wrote, and Yammer will give you a $25,000 signing bonus.

It's working.

Sacks tells me that since then, Yammer has received 70 resumes. Of those, Yammer has made five offers, and two people have accepted jobs and will collect their bounty.

David Sacks, the CEO of Yammer, which is a social network for companies, took to Twitter today to urge Yahoo employees to jump ship.
