Sled on

The iPhone and iPod Touch version of the cult classic Flash game "Line Rider" is every bit as enjoyable on the slim, slick phone as it is online. The nearly identical controls let you draw a track for Bosh the sledder to ride once you press Play. An eraser tool and infinite undoes make it easy to adjust a deadly pitch, and the flag button helps you mark a new starting place for your rider, so you don't have to start at the beginning each time you test a length of track.

'Line Rider' iPhone game sleds on

Even in the Web 2.0 universe, a literally two-dimensional concept can give way to a cult classic, provided it contains a compelling kernel of originality and ways to brand the finished product as your own. The sledding game "Line Rider" humbly began as an online Flash game in which a boy sledded down a track of your design, but it quickly garnered fans who created fantastically creative tracks across which the rider dramatically tumbles and swoops.

It's only fitting that "Line Rider" make the leap onto the iPhone. "Line Rider iRide" ($2.… Read more

'Snow Surfster': Sledding for Boomer bodies

So maybe sometime this winter you'll get the hankering to go outside and do something after all--or maybe the batteries will run out on your RC snowmobile toy. Either way, you might wish there was a way to enjoy the snow in repose, just as you do in your summertime activities.

While its Durantex shell provides durability, according to the product description, molded EVA runners on the bottom … Read more

A Porsche that a kindergartener can drive

It's somehow reassuring to know that the Porsche brand, when not on the roadway, isn't scurrying off to proliferate among kitchen appliances. No offense to our friends and colleagues in the culinary arts, but it's somewhat disturbing to see the name of a racing legend applied to toasters and coffee makers.

So even though it doesn't have four wheels, we still appreciate this "Porsche Kinderbob" sled at least for being a transportation vehicle of some sort, as seen on GeekAlerts. And that way, if you can't afford a Porsche of your own, you … Read more

Sledding in Florida? No problem

You may want to skip this item if you live anywhere near Denver, but those of you in warmer climes who need a frost fix might want to check out the "SG5-LED Snowmaker."

Uncrate says this machine is the "highest-volume snowmaker available" (presumably referring to home use). If it's hooked up to a "6GPM Snowmaking Pump," for example, the system can churn out 180 cubic feet per hour. That's enough to put on a mini-version of some Winter X Games events in your backyard, though the neighbors might not be too thrilled. … Read more

Sledders wanted

Volkswagen is not really known for its off-road prowess, but that might be about to change with a new series of VW-branded sleds for kids. The snazzy snow-skimmers, which boast steering wheels and padded seats, come in a choice of trims inspired by VW favorites such as the GTI and the Beetle. There are no details on whether or not the sleds have brakes or whether they will come fitted with VW's steering impulse system, but they sure will have other parents glowering with envy on the slopes.
