Personally, I'm a tab glutton. I might be using a Windows XP box from 2004, but that doesn't stop me from running four Firefox windows with 10-15 tabs open in each. Each window usually relates to a specific task, project, or … Read more
While Americans are all trying to blow out their electrical circuits with insane light displays, Canadians are busy creating elaborate edible gingerbread structures. A gingerbread "Star Wars" Millennium Falcon is blowing away the competition in Canada's National Gingerbread Showcase 2012.
The insanely elaborate creation comes from the Canoe Brewpub in Victoria, B.C. The spaceship appears to have landed on Hoth, judging by the presence of tons of shredded coconut snow and a Wampa. Chewbecca also lounges near the ship. … Read more
Jetting off to San Francisco last Thursday to appear at the live Netbooks and Tablets CNET Showcase event, I thought the most interesting part might be seeing which systems the guest vendors were going to demo for the live audience.
With Toshiba, Asus, Panasonic, Nvidia, Samsung, and Archos on hand, there were plenty of examples of both traditional Netbooks and touch-screen PCs, including a few on our most-wanted list. While the upcoming Asus Eee Pad didn't make it, two other very interesting laptops did.
First was the Toshiba Libretto W100. With its dual screens and lack of a physical … Read more
Join us tonight for CNET Showcase Live, a discussion on tablets, slates, and Netbooks. Here in our San Francisco headquarters, we've gathered the latest portable technology from Apple, Asus, Archos, Nvidia, Panasonic, Samsung, and Toshiba. We're going to be showing off the gear to our in-person audience after a good discussion about the market and various vendors' approaches to it.
You can watch the discussion live over at CNET TV (in the Reporters' Roundtable slot), starting at 6 p.m. PDT. There's a live chat right under the streaming window, so you can participate with other viewers … Read more
On Thursday, June 24, at 6 p.m. PDT here in San Francisco at the CNET headquarters, we're hosting our second CNET Showcase Live event. This time, the focus is on tablets, slates, and Netbooks, and it promises to be an informative hands-on event for the people who can make it.
I'll start the event with a discussion between me, Donald Bell, and Dan Ackerman on the market for small, portable computers, and an overview of the existing and upcoming products. Then we'll break to the best part: the demos.
We're going to have great products … Read more
The first CNET Showcase event, on 3D TVs, was enough of a success that we've turned right around and set up another one.
On June 24, we'll be putting on Showcase No. 2 at our San Francisco headquarters, this time focusing on slates, tablets, and Netbooks.
We'll kick off the event with a discussion among me and two CNET Reviews experts: Donald Bell (slates and tablets) and Dan Ackerman (Netbooks and notebooks). Then we'll open up a mini trade show, giving our live audience the chance to check out the latest slim and small computers and … Read more
I'm happy to announce that we're launching a little event series here in San Francisco called CNET Showcase. Our goal is to bring local tech enthusiasts together to talk about new consumer technologies with the people who are studying them and making them. And--bonus!--we want to give folks a chance to get their hands on new stuff in a more relaxed and educational environment than a store or giant jam-packed trade show.
Our first event is less than a week away, on Thursday, April 8, at 6 p.m. We'll be bringing in five vendors of … Read more
Just got this note from a PR rep:
We had chatted in early April about Move Networks (regarding ABC's switch from Flash to Move), and I thought you might want to hear a bit of other ABC/Move related news.
Late yesterday, ABC quietly launched their HD player powered by Move Networks' publishing platform and Move's player. There is now an 'HD Showcase' with shows including Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Lost and Ugly Betty running at HD resolution (1280x720).
