Playboy's new iPhone app: Pay for all the non-nudes fit to print

Naked bodies are everywhere these days.

Why, even Vevo is participating in the promulgation of topless women in the new Robin Thicke music video. It was even on YouTube for a short while.

It's perhaps wise, then, to admire Playboy's post-modern confidence in launching a new iPhone app that seems to have decided that nudity is anything but new.

As the Los Angeles Times disrobes it, Playboy realized that Apple's app store bodyguards wouldn't allow an app that featured such threatening items as nipples accompanied by smiles.

So the legendary bunny-pushers put their ears together and … Read more

Playboy hit with $160,000 fine over child restrictions

Playboy has been slapped with a fine for allegedly making it too easy for children to access pornographic material on its Web sites.

Ofcom, the U.K.'s communications regulator and competition authority, announced yesterday that it has fined Playboy 100,000 British pounds ($160,200) for failing to include "acceptable controls" ensuring a person viewing pornographic material on Playboy TV and Demand Adult was at least 18 years old.

Ofcom charged Playboy with "failing to protect children from potentially harmful pornographic material," adding that the failure was "serious, repeated, and reckless."

The Hollywood sign: An LA story of local kid making good

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- It's hard to believe that a bunch of corrugated steel could be so famous. But when that bunch is nine letters that are 45 feet tall, and that combine to stretch 400 feet across, you get what is likely the world's most recognizable sign.

This is, of course, the Hollywood sign, a universal image representing the entertainment industry, and a monument that literally towers over Tinseltown.

But with its 90th anniversary coming up next spring, it may surprise some to learn that the sign has had its global status for only a fraction of its … Read more

Playboy's next fantasy? A men's club in space

Space is already full of heavenly bodies, but apparently not enough of the kind to satisfy those at Playboy, which is taking matters into its own hands.

The adult magazine company has come up with a concept for a Playboy Club in space that includes a zero-gravity dance club and Playboy bunnies with jet packs. The "intergalactic entertainment destination" is featured in the March issue of Playboy, which is out on newsstands now, and is described as a cruise ship in space by the article's writers, A.J. Baime and Jason Harper.

Baime and Harper collaborated with various individuals on the project, including artist Thomas Tenery, Virgin Galactic head designer Adam Wells, and former NASA scientist Stan Kent, to figure out the design and features of the Playboy space club. Together, they dreamed up a wheel-shaped space station that has everything from a casino to a restaurant to "orbital pleasure domes." … Read more

Lindsay Lohan's Playboy nudity leaked by Grinch-like hacker

This is Xmas. The time of no-peeking. The time when the full fruits of the season come to those who wait.

Yet some determined hacker decided that the Xmas gift desired by so many--naked images of Lindsay Lohan in Playboy--would be heartlessly revealed before their time.

Fox News has draped itself around the details of this treasonous act.

It seems the hacker was so determined that he pumped, pushed, and prodded around Playboy's vulnerabilities, until he--it surely had to have been a "he"--found them and uploaded them to a file-sharing site in Russia.

This person was … Read more
