The way I see it, high-end audio is all about the pursuit of excellence, and Audeze headphones exemplify that philosophy. Now sure, most headphone manufacturers try to make the best products they can, but mass-market brands have to satisfy a broad range of tastes, load on features like Bluetooth and phone controls that don't enhance sound quality, and design their products within real-world price constraints. Audeze engineers focus on doing whatever it takes to make the world's best-sounding headphones, and the results speak for themselves.
UPP, or Unilateral Pricing Policy, is a way for TV manufacturers to force retailers to keep manufacturer-specified pricing. As in no crazy discounts to move stock, no doorbuster deals, and no (let's be honest here) price competition. The price is the price is the price. Break that price, and you risk that company banning you from selling its products.
Shockingly, this is legal. Read on for more info.… Read more
Samsung is throwing its formidable weight behind AMOLED display tech -- which could be seen as a challenge to Apple.
The South Korean electronics giant, maker of the Galaxy line of smartphones, made it clear Wednesday that active-matrix organic LED (AMOLED) displays are its future.
"We were the first to commercialize AMOLED back in 2007. This year we successfully produced 440 ppi [pixels per inch] high-resolution AMOLED....we also launched the first curved AMOLED displays," said Kinam Kim, CEO of Samsung Display, during a presentation at the company's analyst day in Seoul, South Korea.
That presentation had … Read more
The number of LEDs has been slashed in the iPad Air, allowing Apple to build a sleeker tablet, according to a new report.
More has been revealed about the iPad Air's internals, revealing a revamped backlight assembly that helped Apple to slash the battery capacity by 23 percent, according to a teardown report released Tuesday by IHS iSuppli.
The iPad Air uses only 36 light-emitting diodes (LED) to illuminate the LCD, down from 84 in the earlier-generation iPad, according to iSuppli.

Samsung Display, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has inked a deal with Gorilla Glass maker Corning that could send shockwaves through the mobile market.
As part of the deal announced Tuesday, Samsung Display will hand over its 43 percent stake in a joint venture between the companies, called Samsung Corning Precision Materials, that produces LCD glass in Korea. In return, Samsung will receive $1.9 billion in convertible preferred shares and will invest another $400 million to get yet more shares. If those shares are converted -- and they likely would be -- Samsung will own 7.4 percent of … Read more
The Moto X and its gorgeous display take Round 2 against the iPhone 5S.
A couple of weeks back, I wrote that the iPhone 5S bested the Moto X on physical design.
This week I'm writing about the display. Mostly because I'm wondering why Apple hasn't switched to AMOLED displays.
After using the X's AMOLED display for the last few weeks and comparing it with the 5S' LCD, I think it may be time for Apple to consider AMOLED, as the technology has improved a lot over the last 12 months or so.
The colors on … Read more

Panasonic's days in the plasma TV market appear to be numbered.
In a long-rumored move, the Japanese electronics giant is planning to exit the market by March 2014 when its current fiscal year comes to an end, sources familiar with the situation told Reuters. That Panasonic was contemplating a departure from the market was first reported by the Japan-based newspaper Nikkei in March, but this reported timetable is sooner than some analysts had expected.
CNET has contacted Panasonic for comment and will update this report when we learn more. The company told Reuters that it was still exploring its … Read more
