The number pad is normally positioned on the right side of the secondary screen, with the symbols to the left. Listening to feedback from their users, SwiftKey now gives you to the option to swap the number pad and symbols so that the numbers are on the left, making it easier … Read more
Congrats to Herbert A. of Westfield, N.J., for winning the entire DC Comics' Villains Months series with 3D covers in last week's giveaway. Here at Crave, we've been taking a look at multipurpose gadgets the last couple of weeks, and this week's prize fits right in.
Accessory maker Kanex is offering up one of its new Multi Sync Keyboards, which can pair up to four devices. So, for example, you can reply to a text on your smartphone, take notes on your tablet, and leave a CNET reader comment on your laptop, all from the same keyboard.
Just plug the full-size wireless peripheral into a Mac or PC using the included Micro-USB cable, pair the additional three devices via Bluetooth, and toggle among gadgets with the touch of a button. … Read more
When you purchase a new Mac and set it up for the first time, you will have the option of choosing the layout for the keyboard that comes with it. In some cases, however, you might wish to change this layout after purchasing the Mac. For instance, if you originally purchased a laptop with a QWERTY keyboard by use it primarily with the French language, then you may wish to change it to a AZERTY layout.
For such transitions, there are two details to consider. The first is the logical layout configured in OS X, and the second is the … Read more
Apple has two Airs in its family, and they're both closer in spirit than ever before. The 2013 MacBook Air is less expensive than 2012's, and has a better battery life. The new iPad Air is smaller, lighter, and has a processor that's inching closer to the potential of a laptop.
Here's the funny thing: the iPad Air starts at $499, but fully loaded up to the highest configuration, it comes to a little under $1,000 ($929, to be specific). The 11-inch MacBook Air -- which is the most diminutive Apple laptop -- starts at $… Read more
Piano Keyboard lets you create your own melodies, but has too few keys and not enough options to be a great piano simulator. The incessant pop-up ads make things even worse for this mid-tier app. There are just too many piano simulators for this one to rank near the top.
This application gives you a tiny onscreen piano that makes accurate notes. Though all of the notes sound great, there are only 12 (seven keys) of them, altogether. That's not even 1/10th of a standard keyboard and not really enough to play a full song. Since the app … Read more
KitKat, the most recent version of Android, brings features as sweet as its namesake to the new Google Nexus 5. Among these, you'll find a new phone dialer, Caller ID, true full screen, a new Hangouts app, and printing abilities.
To use all of these new features, KitKat also has an updated Google Keyboard. This keyboard is very similar to the version released on the Google Play Store, except the swiping line color has changed, you can glide over space to insert it between words, and some upgraded emoji are included.
If you have Android 4.… Read more
Buyers of Apple's iPad Air will be able to outfit their new tablets with keyboards and cases courtesy of Logitech.
The first three products include a Bluetooth wireless keyboard that promises a large key size for more accurate typing. The Folio Protective Case doesn't offer a keyboard but comes with a stand and a waterproof skin that Logitech says will protect the iPad against bumps, scratches, and spills. It's also the … Read more
Owners of the new 13-inch Retina Display MacBook Pro already seem to be running into trouble with their machines.
Numerous people posting on Apple's Support Communities forum say that the keyboard and trackpad become unresponsive, causing the entire system to freeze. Resetting the Mac's System Management Controller (SMC) has no effect, say some. A couple of users claim that closing the lid for a minute or so and reopening it brings the trackpad back to life. Otherwise, shutting down the laptop through a hard reset appears to be the only way to recover from the lockup.

It was only a blog post, and Apple ended up not announcing a tablet keyboard (though CNET's Dan Farber makes the case for Apple to build one here.) But if Apple were to join the tablet keyboard game, it would be a soul crusher for the third party-vendors that already make keyboards for the iPad, right?

To me, it's the nicest part of the whole Surface package. And that keyboard/trackpad cover- - and what it does for the Surface -- is exactly what I wanted in the larger iPad.
Apple used to have its own keyboard accessory when the iPad first debuted: it was a physical keyboard dock. So, obviously, Apple's not opposed to keyboards and iPads. I … Read more
