The iPad Mini with Retina Display may look a lot like the original iPad Mini, but it's a tad thicker and has a second microphone on the back that none of the leaked specs revealed. The result of those small design differences is that many of the existing iPad Mini cases don't fit the Retina version, and case makers have had to scramble to make new, slightly modified versions of their existing cases. It's taken them a little while to do that, so in the early going we're seeing fewer case options for the Mini Retina … Read more
You don't need a keyboard for your iPad. But, if you're planning on an iPad being a laptop-replacing device, having one can come in very handy for getting writing done. I've played with a lot of keyboard accessories on the iPad, but these are my favorites.
Before the iPad Air, most cases would fit the second-, third-, and fourth-gen models equally. That's no longer the case. So, having used several new solutions and written on each, I've broken my recommendations down into categories of iPad: Air, previous generations, and iPad Mini.

The 9.7-inch iPad has been resurrected.
After more than a year and half of mediocrity, Apple finally made its largest iPad worth hauling around. That's my impression after using the Air for a month.
I say mediocrity because the iPad 3 (the first Retina iPad, released in March of 2012) and the iPad 4 (released in October of 2012), were compromised by the extra weight and thickness needed to support the early Retina displays. (Dare I say kludgy about an Apple product?)
Specifically, Apple's early Retina iPad displays required a relatively large backlight apparatus and, concomitantly, more … Read more
More than a month after launch, consumers' adoption of iPad Air continues to outpace the iPad 4 by a wide margin, according to data provided by Fiksu.
The latest data -- updated Friday -- shows a wide gap between iPad Air and iPad 4 adoption, according to Fiksu "Adoption Trackers."
Fiksu samples millions of so-called app events (launches, purchases, and registrations) every hour from applications that use its SDK (software development kit), then charts the percentage of active iOS tablets on each version at a set date after launch.
"At 35 days since release, Fiksu is tracking … Read more
That would be Intel's botched attempt at building a tablet -- which nearly came out roughly a decade before Apple unveiled its first iPad. The device, which was dubbed Intel Pad, or IPAD for short, could browse the Internet, play music and videos, and even act as a digital picture frame.
Unfortunately, the operative word is nearly, as the IPAD was scrapped before consumers could get their hands on it. It's just one of … Read more
The iPad Mini Retina's speed seals the deal.
A lot has been written about the Mini Retina's display. For good reason, of course. Take a display with 786,432 pixels (iPad Mini original) and put it up against one with over 3 million (iPad Retina) and you notice the difference.
But I have been more impressed with the performance of the Mini Retina. After using it for two weeks, the speed is what has sold me.
The iPad Mini Retina is now available for walk-in purchase at Apple stores nationwide. And new data shows that the new Mini has caught up to the original Version in adoption.
As of this week, the iPad Mini Retina is available, for the first time, widely at stores across the U.S., according to checks done by CNET.
Apple stores in Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles all had the iPad Mini Retina available for walk-in purchase as of Tuesday afternoon Pacific.
Though not all models were available for walk-in purchase, all stores contacted by CNET had many Wi-Fi-only models … Read more
UC Browser for iPad brings the UC browser experience to a larger screen but with a number of added features. From the pop-out video player to the speed of the browsing experience, there is a lot to like about this very well crafted, very lightweight browser for the iPad.
UC Browser is for iPad only -- there is an iPhone version but it looks a bit different and has fewer features due to the smaller screen. What they've done in the iPad version is to blow things up but also to add a lot of tools that make sense … Read more
The Retina iPad Mini can't compete with its bigger brother at showing the same wide range of colors, according to tests run by tech review site Anandtech.
Putting the new Mini through its paces, Anandtech discovered that its color gamut hasn't changed since the first model was introduced in 2012. Further, the Retina Mini's sRGB coverage is limited compared with that of the Air and with those of rival tablets, such as the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HDX 8.9.
"The difference is small but apparent," Anandtech said, especially to people accustomed to the … Read more
Wondering whether the iPad Mini Retina is worth it? Here's two good reasons.
This could be one of the shortest reviews of the iPad Mini Retina you'll ever read. But then, give me one strong reason to upgrade and it's usually a done deal.
I've always believed that the iPad Mini was one Apple's crowning achievements. Better than the iPod, better than the iPhone, and way better than the third- and fourth-generation iPads.
For me, it's the perfect tablet to hold and its 4:3 aspect ration is icing on the cake.
But it … Read more
