Mitsubishi unveils cheaper i-MiEV electric car

Mitsubishi Motors today launched two new versions of the i-MiEV electric car, slashing the price on one and extending the range on the other to appeal to more consumers in the nascent zero-emission field.

Mitsubishi became the first major automaker to mass-produce pure electric cars with the egg-shaped i-MiEV and leads the segment so far with 10,000 vehicles sold globally since mid-2009. It has exported another 4,000 electric cars for sale under PSA Peugeot Citroen's brands.

Mitsubishi i-Miev crash test video

The Mitsubishi i, powered by Miev (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle) technology, will be arriving in the United States in the fall.

The subcompact urban car boasts 63 horsepower and 133 pound-feet of torque. The Japanese-made car runs on an lithium ion battery packs and has an expected range of 85 miles.

Mitsubishi to unveil 2011 i-Miev at LA auto show

Mitsubishi announced on Twitter that the U.S. version of its 2011 Mitsubishi i-MiEV will be unveiled at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show next month.

Earlier today Autoblog posted online sketches it snagged from Mitsubishi's global corporate site of a wider-bodied i-MiEV. They're guessing that these drawings could be the beefed-up version of the compact EV that will enter the North American market next year.

Mitsubishi has 900 advance orders for EV

TOKYO -- In one month, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has taken 900 advance customer deposits for its i-MiEV electric vehicle.

The four-passenger car will go on sale next April in Japan. Mitsubishi began taking orders July 31.

Mitsubishi says it wants to sell about 6,000 i-MiEVs worldwide, including 5,000 in Japan, during the first year of sales. That comes to about 400 a month in Japan.

Mitsubishi electric plans: From show to go in U.S.

Mitsubishi will sell a small electric car in the United States.

The car, a Japan-built ultracompact with a 330-volt lithium ion battery, is being road-tested in Oregon. Mitsubishi plans to begin marketing the car in Japan in July and to introduce it in Europe in 2010. The U.S. launch is tentatively scheduled to happen after Europe's.

Mitsubishi, Oregon team up for electric car test

Mitsubishi Motors has kicked its Drive@Earth global sustainability initiative into high gear. The company recently announced plans to develop the pure electric, four-passenger Mitsubishi i-MiEV (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle) for global markets.

Mitsubishi partnered with the state of Oregon and Portland General Electric for the project. PGE is installing a network of charging stations across its service territory in Oregon and the addition of i-MiEVs further facilitates its support of next-generation electric vehicles. PGE currently has more than a dozen charging stations running.

Mitsubishi to bring i MiEV electric vehicle stateside

Mitsubishi is partnering with California utility companies Pacific Gas and Electric and Southern California Edison to bring the oddly named i MiEV electric vehicle to the Golden State. Here's the catch: you won't even be given the option to purchase one.
