Flipboard, the popular news-reading app, is making it easier for people to add -- and track -- their original content to Flipboard with the latest magazine curation features for Android devices.

The magazine curation feature, which lets users collect articles around a specific theme or subject matter into a Flipboard magazine is now available for Android phones and tablets, and online as a Web-based editing tool that also provides metrics.

Flipboard is posting pretty rapid growth, and it's looking for new ways to generate revenue for itself, partners, and users, the company's CEO said.

Mike McCue, speaking Monday at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in New York, said the company has added 6 million new users since launching an update to its popular news-reading app a month ago.

Flipboard update turns readers into magazine publishers

Flipboard, the popular news-reading app, released an update today that allows its readers to become magazine publishers, creating personalized periodicals curated from a variety of Web content from around the world.

The update features a "+" button that allows readers to save and share stories, photos, videos, and audio clips to electronic magazines that reflect their individual tastes, interests, or opinions. Flipboard suggests that the new functionality, which is also available as a Web bookmarklet called Flip It, will allow publishers to better surface archived content as well as package related stories.

Flipboard lands on Android tablets

News-reading app Flipboard, already popular among Android smartphones users, is now available on the operating system's tablets.

Flipboard said the app, which will now work on tablets like Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1, GALAXY Tab series and Nexus 10, was "a top request from Flipboard readers around the world."
