Wow: Cataclysm sunders 3.3 million in 24 hours

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade set PC sales records upon its release in January 2007, selling 2.4 million units worldwide in 24 hours. In November 2008, Blizzard Entertainment trumped its own high-water mark, when Wrath of the Lich King sold 2.8 million units in a single day.

With the third expansion to its 12 million-subscriber-strong massively multiplayer online role-playing game on store shelves last week, Blizzard has confirmed that the streak has continued. World of Warcraft character move fees waived

The World of Warcraft: Cataclysm expansion sees a major upheaval for the virtual world of Azeroth, but the changes to Blizzard's massively multiplayer online role-playing game will extend to the player base as well.

To accommodate the influx of new and returning players, Blizzard today said it will allow free character transfers to and from specific servers in the game for a limited time.

Until December 22, Blizzard will allow free realm transfers from 25 highly populated servers to alleviate log-in queues or performance issues.
