Enable offline cached pages in Google Canary

Canary is a developer and beta version of Google Chrome's newest features. By allowing both versions of Chrome to run side-by-side, you can test out the newest features without sacrificing your stable version.

If you're using the most recent version of Canary, there's a new experimental feature that lets you view the offline cached versions of Web pages. Not sure if you have the most recent build? Easy fix. Just click the Settings icon in the top-right-hand corner, then choose About Google Chrome. Your browser will check for updates and apply any available.

Mayo Clinic unveils software that pinpoints risky lung nodules

With lung cancer being the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S., effective early screening is key to saving lives. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic say they've developed new software that can help classify lung nodules noninvasively, saving lives and health care costs.

A pilot study of the program called Computer-aided Nodule Assessment and Risk Yield, or Canary, appears in the April issue of the Journal of Thoracic Oncology.

Canary leans on data from high-resolution CT images of a common type of cancerous nodule in the lung called pulmonary adenocarcinomas. It matches every pixel of the lung image to one of nine unique radiological exemplars. In the pilot study, it was able to classify the lesions as aggressive or indolent with high sensitivity, as compared to microscopic analyses of the lesions after being surgically removed and analyzed by lung pathologists.… Read more

Chrome 25 review: Talk to the Web app

Google Chrome has matured from a lightweight and fast browsing alternative into an innovative, standard-bearing browser that people love. It's powerful enough to drive its own operating system, Chrome OS. The browser that people can use today, Chrome 25, offers highly competitive features, including synchronization, autofill, and standards compliance, and maintains Google's reputation for building one of the fastest browsers available.

Chrome 25 represents a major milestone for the browser, but those expecting to see dramatic changes in major version-point updates will be disappointed. For a while now, Google has been pushing features over what it calls milestone … Read more

Cutting-edge Chrome Canary arrives for Mac

Google has released Chrome Canary for Mac OS X (download), bringing the bleeding-edge version of the browser beyond just Windows.

Canaries, I learned on a tour this year of a Welsh coal mine, were used all the way until the 1980s to detect when something was wrong with the air supply; canaries would get agitated when there wasn't enough oxygen. Chrome Canary is a rapidly changing release with the very latest features designed to catch problems before they reach the broader audiences of the Chrome developer, beta, and stable channels.

"The Mac version of Google Chrome Canary...automatically … Read more

Chrome 11 wants to hear you speak

Be careful venting your frustrations with modern technology when using the latest version of Google Chrome, released today. Chrome 11 (download for Windows | Mac | Linux) comes with the ability to convert your speech to text, which could prove to be a big boon to people who have difficulty with keyboards as well as providing on the go translations when used with Google Translate.

The new feature, based in HTML5, requires a microphone icon embedded in the Web page. Click the icon and then speak into your computer's mic. The input records as text, and the browser automatically inserts the … Read more

Tab tweaks land in Chrome Canary

Google's "canary-in-the-mineshaft" version of its Chrome browser gained a new "labs" option for users to explore on Wednesday. Users of Chrome Canary, named to indicate that it's an even rougher version of Chrome than the developer's build, can now activate rougher, in-progress features by typing "about:labs" into the location bar. About:labs was first revealed last week.

The first feature to land in the lab is Side Tabs. To activate it, go to about:labs and click the Enable button under Side Tab. Restart Chrome Canary and when you right-click … Read more

Chrome dev too stable? Try new Chrome Canary

Google has released a fourth version of Chrome called Canary for those keen on the latest features but willing to put up with more bugs and crashes.

Chrome Canary installs alongside any of the three existing versions of Chrome--stable, beta, and developer, according to a mailing list message by Google programmer Huan Ren last week. That lets developers test different versions more easily on the same computer, although Canary is available only for Windows at present.

Perhaps more interesting to Chrome enthusiasts is that Google plans to update Canary more often than the developer release, new versions of which arrive … Read more

2010 Lamborghini Gallardo does Australia

Yesterday I was writing about the new Audi R8 sports car that's borrowed at least a few attributes from the Lamborghini Gallardo. I figured since I brought up the subject that I may as well present you with a video of that very car, and specifically in this case we are putting the spotlight on the 2010 Lambo Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder as it blazes through the Canary Islands.

Lamborghini's Gallardo is numerically its biggest production car and is generally regarded the world over as one of the best performing and aesthetically pleasing modern sports cars. The Spyder edition … Read more

Norton's "Canary" technology creates "vulnerability signatures"

As part of their upcoming Norton Internet Security 2008 product, Symantec will include a new technology they're currently calling "Canary." The idea behind Canary is vulnerable browsers are the first point of entry for many Web threats known as "drive by" downloads. Canary will identify signatures of known Internet Explorer browser vulnerabilities then block exploits as soon as they are released. "Canary creates vulnerability signatures," said Rowan Trollope, vice president of Consumer Products at Symantec. Signatures for other browsers, including Firefox, will be included in the future.

The timing of this new technology … Read more
