How to sync iCloud Reminders with your Android device

For some users who are torn between switching from iOS to Android, the downside of giving up some iCloud features such as Calendar and Reminders (especially if there are shared calendars or reminder lists with other iCloud users) is too much to overlook.

Last July I covered an app called SmoothSync for Cloud Calendar that provided a solution for Android users to still have two-way sync with iCloud calendars. The app has been updated several times since last summer, with each update improving reliability, but until recently the option to sync Reminders was still missing. If you had set up … Read more

Google creeps up on Microsoft at HP: Now office apps

Hewlett-Packard is now a Google Apps reseller, as it continues to lean more on Google-related products and tries to make itself more relevant in the age of the mobile device.

Those mobile devices now include the Google-software-based HP SlateBook x2, HP Chromebook, and HP Slate 7.

Now add HP SMP IT in a Box to that mix, which HP defines it as its "entry into the Google Apps Reseller program."

The program will "leverage" HP hardware, including PCs and printers, with Google Apps for Business.

Google offers mea culpa to calendar developers

When it comes to services, it can seem that Google giveth and Google taketh away at random. But sometimes, the company listens to its customers, too.

In the case of one particular application programming interface used by developers to access calendar data, the open standard CalDAV API was set to be restricted to whitelisted partners later this year.

Google explained Wednesday that, following an outcry by developers, the company has "a better understanding of developers' use cases" for the API, and CalDAV will remain open to them.

The company also announced that "in the spirit of openness&… Read more

Siri-like calendar app Tempo eyes other platforms

Tempo, the calendar app that uses Siri-like artificial intelligence to schedule meetings and dial in on conference calls, is racking up user data to decide where it will land next.

The app, created by Tempo AI, highlighted its popular conference call features on Wednesday. While the company -- which comes from SRI International, the same place that created Apple's Siri -- won't share its user numbers, it revealed that people have made 1 million one-tap conference calls with the app since its launch in February.

This feature lets users dial in on a conference call with a tap … Read more

Chrome gets a touch faster

Already known for its speed, Google just boosted Chrome's Web site rendering speed by another 5 percent.

The latest stable release of the browser, Chrome 27 (download for Windows, Mac, or Linux), received the small improvement by managing its resources better. To boil down the jargon, the browser's internal resource scheduler now favors more critical resources over preloaded sites.

Chrome engineer James Simonsen wrote in the company's blog announcing the update Tuesday that, across the hundreds of millions of people using Chrome, the amount of time saved equals around 510 years per week. But what we're … Read more

One of the most used tools on the iPad is the calendar. Combining all of your calendars from your iOS account as well as any others you have connected to it, including Facebook, this tool is an important part of many workdays. That's where CalRemind 2 for iPad comes in.

CalRemind 2 opens with a very basic interface--a blank calendar--and easily populates with your Apple Calendar and Reminder entries. With the tap … Read more
