If your needs are basic, the ES File Explorer app has built-in compression tools that might be all you need. However, if you're a power user and need things like, multivolume support, archive repair, encryption, … Read more
Compressing multiple files into a single ZIP file can be very convenient. Depending on what you're compressing, it can significantly shrink the size of the files. You've probably used compressed files on a computer before, and they're useful on mobile devices too.
If you're storing files locally on your Android device, compressing them can save you precious storage space. If you need to send files over a mobile connection, compressing them beforehand may also keep your data usage down. One of the easiest ways to compress files on your Android device is using the app ES File Explorer. … Read more
Long ago, in a living room far, far away, games like Donkey Kong Jr., Frogger, Laser Blast, Joust, Pac-Man, Q-bert, Centipede, Burgertime, and Dig Dug ruled our every waking moment. Pixilated characters beeped their way across our TV screens as we challenged our friends and families to a match on our Atari 2600, Atari 7800 ProSystem, Magnavox Odyssey, ColecoVision, and Astrocade game console systems.
The late astrobiologist Carl Sagan eloquently referred to Earth, in the view from Saturn, as a "Pale Blue Dot."
"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us," he wrote in his 1994 "Pale Blue Dot" book. "On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives."
Sagan is known for making the complexities of space and the universe accessible to ordinary people. As a consultant to NASA, he helped lead the US space … Read more
SAN FRANCISCO -- On the occasion of what would've been Aaron Swartz's 27th birthday, the hacker who was driven to suicide earlier this year by government prosecution was memorialized with a clay statue of his likeness at the Internet Archive.
The half-sized representation of Swartz bears his scruffy, unshaven likeness and neck-length hair, but also an Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) T-shirt and a laptop with an inscription on its lid: "10,000,000,000,000,000 Internet Archive 2012 bytes archived." The Internet Archive crossed 10 petabytes of data archived for free in October 2012.

WinZip has long been a go-to ZIP tool, so we were keen to try the all-new WinZip 18. It's much more than a cosmetic upgrade: A new compression engine zips, splits, and joins files faster than legacy versions, though of course WinZip still handles virtually any archive file type. It converts files to PDFs, adds watermarks, resizes photos, manages archives, and protects files with 128/256 bit encryption. Improved cloud navigation smoothly integrates WinZip with many more cloud services, including Box, Dropbox, SugarSync, SkyDrive, and Google Drive. Cloud Links adds links to files via e-mail, IM, and social media. … Read more

Erasing a lot of text by shaking an iOS device to undo typing has been around as long as I can remember in iOS. You can even shake a device to redo any text you accidentally erased.
When it comes to iOS 7, it seems Apple decided to give the shake gesture one more use by implementing it in the Mail app.
With iOS 7 on your device, you can shake to undo the archiving, filing, and deletion of e-mails in the Mail app.
Here's how it works:
Shortly after filing an e-mail, archiving, or deleting an e-mail in … Read more
Archiver's Memory Lab uses an online cloud storage system to back up your images and allows you to order prints directly from the company. There are similar apps from other companies, including those that may offer local printing and delivery in your area, but this is nonetheless a decent, well executed app with quick response and upload times.
When you first open Archiver's Memory Lab, you'll be tasked with first creating a user account so you can start uploading your images. From there, you can upload any images from your photo library to an online account and … Read more
