Cadillac's CTS-V Wagon is a rocket ride

Update: A Cadillac spokesperson informed CNET that the company will offer a CTS-V Wagon as a 2014 model based on the current generation. Cadillac will also use this generation for a 2014 CTS Coupe and CTS Sport Wagon. The only model getting the next generation update will be the CTS sedan.

Station wagons, once the family car of choice, plummeted in popularity after the 1970s, making the 2013 Cadillac CTS-V Wagon a rare thing. Such a powerful wagon is an even rarer thing, yet fitting a wagon with CTS-V performance gear seems so right.

The CTS is, of course, the … Read more

V-Moda's outrageously sweet portable DAC and headphone amp

I've reviewed a number of portable headphone amps over the years, but they just took the analog output of a phone or MP3 player and made it sound better. Ideally, you want to totally bypass the player's digital converters, but up until recently that was a very expensive proposition. The V-Moda Vamp Verza cuts the price to less than half, and works with iPhones, iPads, and iPods, as well as Androids and computers. I'm really impressed with the little Vamp Verza's sound.

The look and concept were designed by V-Moda's Val Kolton in Milan, Italy, … Read more

Oracle appeal in Google API copyright suit hit with criticism

The Electronic Frontier Foundation is throwing in its two cents in the ongoing legal battle between Oracle and Google over whether APIs should or shouldn't be copyrightable.

The brief is signed by tech leaders like MS-DOS author Tim Paterson and ARPANET developer Larry Roberts.

Review: MyWeatherPic combines weather obsession with photo sharing

MyWeatherPic takes the everyday urge to talk about the weather and helps you share the exact conditions wherever you are with custom images. Using many familiar photo editing and sharing features combined with weather-tracking integration, the app is a unique and fun tool.

MyWeatherPic, at its core, is a camera. You open the app and the camera will activate in the upper half of the screen. Over the top of the camera's viewfinder is an overlay of the current weather and your location. Weather is in degrees Celsius to start but you can change to Fahrenheit or you can … Read more

Review: Bill Reminder Free BillManager helps you track your payments

If you're buried under a sea of bills, this app might help you dig yourself out. Bill Reminder Free BillManager will remind you when it's time to pay any bill you tell it to. It's nowhere near as helpful as a full budgeting app or even Google Calendar, but it does what it says on the box.

Bill Reminder Free BillManager lets you create multiple templates and bill reminders for days or months. Sadly, you can't set bill reminders to reoccur on the same day every month. You have to create them every single month, which … Read more

Google: Dart will rescue browsers from JavaScript

SAN FRANCISCO -- Google long has been a firm believer that JavaScript, the programming language used to build Web apps such as Google Maps and Gmail, could shoulder a much heavier computing load.

But even as the company continues to push JavaScript's abilities with Chrome's V8 engine, some at the company believe JavaScript is pushing up against its limits. For that reason, Google developed its Dart programming language, and at the Google I/O developer show here, the company made the case for Dart.

"The ultimate goal is to get Dart into Chrome. I hope you all … Read more

Google asked to provide search docs in Apple-Samsung spat

A federal judge on Thursday told Google it needs to hand over documentation about how it's searching for information it's required to provide as part of a lawsuit between Apple and Samsung.

Apple earlier this week had requested the court require Google to disclose its methodology, adding that the search giant was not doing "a full search" for documents related to its Android operating system, which Apple wants to use as evidence in its patent lawsuit against Samsung.

In a court order, U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal said that Google has two days to provide … Read more

Apple pushes for Android code docs in Samsung case

In the next step of the Apple v. Samsung battle, Apple has asked a judge to make Google hand over documents related to the Android operating system.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal in San Jose, Calif., was told by the tech giant earlier this week that Google is inappropriately withholding information related to the Android operating system. The iPad and iPhone maker argues that as Google's Android is used in all of the devices that allegedly infringe on patents and "provides much of the accused functionality," Google should be forced to hand over documents related … Read more
