InterDigital calls for sales ban against Samsung, Nokia, others

InterDigital is on the patent warpath again.

The company, famous for holding a boatload of patents on wireless products, filed a complaint yesterday with the United States International Trade Commission against the usual round of tech players.

Citing infringement against seven of its patents, InterDigital wants the ITC to ban the U.S. import of products made by Samsung, Nokia, ZTE, and Huawei.

RIM expands licensing deal with InterDigital to cover 4G LTE tech

Research In Motion and InterDigital have extended an existing patent licensing agreement to cover 4G LTE technology.

Under the deal announced today, RIM will be able to use InterDigital's patents in its upcoming line of BlackBerry 10 products, which are set to debut later this month.

The deal comes just a few weeks after RIM settled a patent dispute with Nokia. In that case, RIM agreed to a one-time payment to Nokia and ongoing royalties for the use of its technology.

Report: Sale of InterDigital's patent portfolio delayed

The sale of InterDigital's patent portfolio has been pushed back until early September to give potential buyers a better chance to evaluate it, according to a new report.

Reuters said today the sale of InterDigital's portfolio, which stretches to some 8,800 granted patents and nearly 10,000 patent applications, is being delayed until after Labor Day. The sale was originally slated for next week, sources familiar with the situation told the outlet, but potential buyers want to vet the portfolio in light of recent landmark intellectual-property purchases.

Report: Samsung in hunt for InterDigital's patents

Samsung is said to be "examining" the patent portfolio of wireless technology company InterDigital to help bolster its existing collection of patents and other intellectual property, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The outlet says Samsung's been approached to make a bid on the portfolio, which is being shopped around ahead of a potential sale. Late last month InterDigital announced that it had hired Evercore Partners and Barclays Capital to consider strategic alternatives for the company, a move that included a sale of the company itself.

InterDigital goes after Nokia, Huawei, and ZTE

InterDigital is taking aim at Nokia, Huawei, and ZTE, claiming the companies are illegally using its 3G wireless technology.

The developer of wireless technologies said today that it has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission, seeking a ban on the importation of 3G phones, USB laptop sticks, mobile hot spots, tablets, and other wireless components from the three companies. The company separately filed a lawsuit with the U.S. District Court in Delaware.

Google is looking into buying wireless technology company InterDigital after losing out on the bidding in bankruptcy court last month for Nortel Networks' vast patent portfolio, according to The Wall Street Journal.

InterDigital said yesterday that it has hired Evercore Partners and Barclays Capital to consider strategic alternatives for the company, including a sale, based on the skyrocketing valuations for intellectual property rights for wireless technology.

Samsung and InterDigital reach 3G and 2G settlement

Samsung and wireless technology provider InterDigital have reached a settlement in their long-running patent dispute involving 3G and 2G technologies, InterDigital announced Monday.

Under the agreement, Samsung will receive a royalty-bearing license to cover all of its 3G products through 2012. The agreement, which also resolves a dispute over Samsung's royalty obligations for its 2G sales, will also include products built on WCDMA and cdma2000 standards and related extensions.
