Camp coffee just like at home

Modern times necessitate an occasional escape back to nature. However, one nice part about being able to get away from it all is the ability to bring some of it with you. While the blaring TV is always a good thing to leave behind, other modern appliances have evolved past the point of convenience to honest-to-goodness can't-live-without-them items.

The Coleman Portable Propane Coffeemaker looks and operates just like the familiar elixir-maker that lives on the kitchen countertop--except for one important difference. Powered by propane rather than an electrical outlet, the portable coffeemaker is designed for outdoor living.

Unfold to grill on the go

Food is meant to be shared, and that sentiment may be even truer (if possible) when it comes to grilled food; there's a reason burgers and hot dogs don't come in single-serve packages. But sometimes instead of bringing people to the food, it makes more sense to bring the food to the people.

The Coleman Fold N Go Charcoal Grill is a portable party waiting to happen. Featuring a folding design and an integrated carrying handle, the ready-to-go grill transports easily to the beach, park, or tailgate party. Once you've arrived, the grill unfolds to offer 150 … Read more

Happy 10th anniversary, Sega Dreamcast!

There's a lot to keep track of on September 9, with an Apple press conference and the release of The Beatles: Rock Band game. But we'd be remiss if we didn't call attention to the upcoming 10th anniversary of one of the best-loved game consoles of all time. It was 10 years ago tomorrow (September 9, 1999) that Sega released the Dreamcast in North America. Remembered primarily by video game history buffs now, this unassuming white box helped introduce some mainstays of the modern game console--even though the Dreamcast itself had a very short lifespan.

Five things Cassatt taught us about cloud computing

The widely reported sale of key technology and talent assets from utility computing infrastructure vendor Cassatt to CA on Tuesday serves as a lesson to us all about the challenges that lay before enterprises transitioning to virtualization, automation and cloud computing.

I had reported that the end was near a few weeks ago, and former Cassatt Director of Product Marketing Ken Oestreich (now at Egenera) posted a beautiful overview of what CA is getting from Cassatt, and the opportunities that now lay the new owners.

I wanted to take a moment myself to reflect on what I learned during my … Read more

Cassatt is running out of runway

I knew it was coming, but I am greatly saddened that this time has come.

In an article on Forbes.com Monday, William "Bill" Coleman--former Sun executive, and the "B" in BEA--let it be known that his latest venture, Cassatt, is close to shutting its doors for good. With heavy investment from the likes of Warburg Pincus (reportedly well north of $100 million), Cassatt describes itself as "champion(ing) the vision of managing data centers like a 'compute utility.'"

Cassatt has been building and selling policy-driven infrastructure automation of various sorts for most of … Read more

Good grilling on the go

It's easy to become accustomed to the convenience of kitchen appliances. I know I am appreciative of my indoor grill. It makes me feel good knowing that a quick burger, chicken breast, or panini is but a button press away. It's useful, easy, and always there for me. With a tethered electrical cord, however, the grill is not very portable.

In a case of an outdoor appliance being inspired by an indoor appliance that was originally inspired by an outdoor appliance, we have this outdoor grill (got all that?). The Coleman Fold N Go InstaStart Grill borrows the … Read more

Coleman Senate campaign in donor data leak mess

The campaign of Republican Norm Coleman, who is engaged in a fierce legal battle to keep his Senate seat from Democrat Al Franken, has warned supporters that their credit card numbers may have been exposed on the Internet.

His campaign manager, Cullen Sheehan, said the office became aware of a possible security breach of the donor database in January, however an investigation found the data had not been accessed by an unauthorized party, according to a report on Wednesday in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune.

Supporters received an e-mail from the nonprofit Wikileaks site on Tuesday night saying the Coleman … Read more

Greg Coleman, a longtime Yahoo executive, has been named the new president of AOL's advertising division, Platform-A.

Unisys hopes ex-Gateway chief can turn it around

Unisys on Tuesday announced that it has named J. Edward Coleman as its new chief executive.

Coleman will take on the roles of chairman and CEO. He replaces Joseph McGrath, who served as CEO for the past three years, and whose departure was announced last month. Henry Duques will step down from his position as chairman of the company's board but will become lead director instead.

In a statement, Unisys touted Coleman as a master of corporate transformations and turnarounds. Most recently, he served as CEO of Gateway for a little more than a year. In that short amount … Read more

When the going gets tough, the tough need coffee

A week and a half ago, Hurricane Ike slammed into my city and left nearly everyone without power. Not an easy situation, to be sure. For me, the worst of it was having no access to my beloved cappuccino maker. So, after 36 hours, my family and I hightailed it out of town and began our Trek across Texas, ostensibly "for the sake of the children," but you and I know better.

Coleman understands that the need for good coffee is more urgent than rational. The company makes a host of appliances you can run off a car … Read more
