If you're a longtime BlackBerry user (so, likely a big fan of that hardware keyboard), but are looking to switch to the Android platform, Sprint's Motorola Admiral is for you.

The smartphone is one of a few on the market that offer a full QWERTY keyboard and a touch screen that both work incredibly well. The coolest thing about the phone, however, is not its input method, but its push-to-talk capabilites via a Direct Connect (DC) button right in the middle of the left side of the phone.

By pressing and holding this button you can instantly call people who have phones with the same DC feature (up to 20 preset numbers). You can call them regardless of distance, the way you would with a walkie-talkie. In my tests, this feature worked very well and was fun to use. The Admiral is the first smartphone to support push-to-talk on Sprint's CDMA network. Today, Sprint introduced the Motorola Admiral, the newest addition to its Direct Connect portfolio.

Joining the previously announced Kyocera DuraMax, the Admiral supports Sprint's next-gen Direct Connect push-to-talk service, which operates on the carrier's 3G CDMA network instead of Nextel's iDEN network. The advantage of the new service is faster data speeds, and Sprint plans to phase out iDEN in 2013.

MetroPCS is making good on its Android commitment by announcing today the Samsung Admire, a mid-tier Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone.

The Admire comes equipped with a 3.5-inch HVGA touch screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera and camcorder, a Swype virtual keyboard option, and an 800Mhz processor. It also includes a microSD card slot that takes up to 32GB expandable memory.

Fortune on Thursday released its annual list of the world's most admired companies and topping that list is Apple. Another tech giant, Google, placed second overall.

To collect its data, Fortune asked businesspeople to vote for the companies that they admired most, from any industry. This is the third straight year that Apple has taken the title of most admired company, but this year it also took the top position in the computer category.
