When Google decided to ship most of Motorola over to China and its new home with Lenovo, it held on to Moto's Advanced Technologies and Projects division, which has been working on some of the more crazy, and Google X-like, initiatives -- like a modular smartphone (Project Ara) and a 3D-mapping phone (Project Tango).
It seems as though the only phones Google is truly interested in making in-house are those that push the boundaries of what a smartphone is and is meant to do. Now we have some idea of what the Project Tango phone, which is kind of like taking Google's mapping and Street View initiatives down to an even more detailed level, will shape up to be. … Read more
If you want to hear David J's new album, "An Eclipse of Ships," but can't make it to Austin for his three SXSW shows (March 12-16), you'll have to wait till spring. The acoustic album features musicians on violin, acoustic piano, Rhodes, stand-up bass, mandolin, oboe, percussion, and a bevy of acoustic guitars. It's a celebration of women -- some known to the artist and some conjured up in fantasies.

If you've ever wondered what it would be like for the Internet to fold in on itself, resulting in a massive fringe culture supernova bursting with the luminosity of a million memes feasting on one another, then look no more. Slowly but surely, pieces of the LG G3 puzzle seem to be falling into place. Rumors point to a May debut for the device, which means that the pace of rumors should quicken over the next few weeks.
A user agent profile spotted on LG's Web site by frequent Twitter tipster @evleaks suggests that the handset-maker has a D850 model in the works. Considering that the LG D800 is the model number for the current G2 flagship, it's logical that the D850 here would be its eventual successor.
The XML document also reveals the screen display. Listed at … Read more

Huawei is still on friendly terms with Windows Phone, but Android is the true object of its affection.
Speaking with blog site TrustedReviews, Huawei Chief Marketing Officer Shao Yang said the maker of mobile devices remains "committed" to making phones outfitted with Microsoft's mobile OS. Last year, China-based Huawei launched the Ascend W1 and struck a deal with Microsoft to sell Windows Phone devices in Africa.
But that commitment isn't quite a top priority.
"Compared with Android, the priority of Windows Phone is much lower but is still one of our choices of OS," … Read more
The people behind WhatsApp are rebutting a report contending that the app is vulnerable because your chats can be stored on an Android phone's SD card.
Earlier this week, DoubleThink chief technology officer Bas Bosschert posted a blog alleging that hackers could use a malicious app to tap into your WhatsApp conversations by uploading the database from the SD card to a Web site. To prove his point, Bosschert said he created an app that was able to snag and read the database files.
In response, a spokesperson for WhatsApp called the report "overstated" and issued the … Read more
