Review: LG BD300 puts Netflix and Blu-ray in one box

Even for home theater fans, standalone Blu-ray players can be pretty boring. There are some major differences between the players, such as what Blu-ray Profile they support, but you rarely see any new or standout features.

The LG BD300 is different in this regard, as it's the first Blu-ray player that is Netflix-Internet-streaming-ready. It allows you to stream content available on Netflix's "Watch Now" service directly from the player to the TV, which is much more convenient than watching it on your computer.

Netflix aside, the BD300 is also a pretty solid Blu-ray player, although it … Read more

Second Prada phone gets QWERTY keyboard

We reviewed the original Prada phone more than a year ago and loved its style but weren't happy with its lack of support for 3G. On Monday, LG announced the second generation of the phone, and guess what? It will support 3G and more.

Design-wise, the new Prada will look almost identical to the original, with one major difference: a QWERTY keyboard that slides out from under the handset. The keyboard is very thin and therefore won't make the phone much thicker.

The keyboard is definitely a welcome addition for those who like typing on the phone. You … Read more

New products from Fujitsu, Toshiba, and HP: The week in laptops

You know how some weeks you're churning along--going to meetings, putting out fires, and somehow tending your regular workload as well--and suddenly you look up and it's Friday afternoon? Yeah, that was this week at CNET Laptop HQ. So this digest will be in the form of a list, with witty commentary to return in seven days.

Products announced this week:

HP's first 13-inch laptop, the Pavilion dv3500t; the Fujitsu LifeBook A1110, which features a groovy swappable lid design; the very non-Satellite-y Toshiba Satellite E105; also from Toshiba, a Netbook available only in Japan (for now); LG'… Read more

LG launches the Renoir in Europe

LG unveiled its latest touch-screen phone this Thursday, dubbed the Renoir. Also known by its model name KC910, the Renoir is a touch-screen phone with a whopping 8-megapixel camera as well as camera features that LG claims rivals that of even standalone digital cameras.

It's equipped with Schneider-Kreuznach optics, a Xenon flash, auto and manual focus, up to ISO 1,600 sensitivity, and geotagging. The Renoir also has a feature called Touch Shot that lets you focus on an object by tapping it on the screen, and then automatically taking a photo of it when the finger is removed. … Read more

LG readies 3G Netbook, the X110 Momo

Quick quiz. What has an Intel Atom processor, a 10-inch screen, and weighs less than three pounds? A not small number of Netbooks.

What has the above specs, plus 3G mobile broadband? The LG X110 Momo Netbook. The addition of integrated HSUPA 3G connectivity helps separate the X100 Momo from the rest of the Netbook pack. (Momo = More Mobility, in case you're wondering.)

A ship date and pricing remain mysteries, but a product page for the X110 has popped up on LG's United Arab Emirates site. Other specs listed include the now-ubiquitous 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU and … Read more

LG's 60-inch THX plasma brings accurate color

Judging from our two previous reviews of THX Display Certified HDTVs, the Panasonic TH-50PX800U and the LG 50PG60, the certification gets at least one thing right: primary and secondary color accuracy. Our recent review of LG's best 60-inch plasma, the 60PG60, finds that those color points are still dang accurate, regardless of size.

The 60-inch LG performed almost the same as its 50-inch brother, and we expect similarities between the 50-inch Panasonic and its 58-inch bro, due to grace our labs soon, according to the company's representatives. We still think LG has some work to do though, especially in the black-level department, but that doesn't stop the 60-inch monster from producing one of the best huge-screen images we've tested this year.
