If it weren't for the redesigned Home button and larger flash, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5 would look like identical twins, at least on the outside. Take the new 5S apart, however, and the differences are more apparent -- even if only slightly so. And although it isn't the easiest phone to repair, with the right tools and a little patience, it is possible.

One of the hackers who recently tricked Apple's fingerprint sensor now has a video out showing just how he does it.
Earlier this week, a group of hackers in Germany, known as the Chaos Computer Club, took credit for bypassing the biometric security on the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. That hack was accomplished by scanning someone's fingerprint and ultimately using that to gain access to that person's iPhone 5S.

The iPhone 5S had "real demand" that was close to 6 million units, about twice the number of estimated sales during its opening weekend, Morgan Stanley said in a research note Tuesday.
Apple said on Monday that it had sold 9 million iPhone 5C and 5S units in the first weekend and that it sold out of its initial iPhone 5S supply. The company did not break out sales figures for the two versions, but said that the combined sales were an opening-weekend record.

A gold iPhone 5S may be difficult to get at the moment, but making your old iPhone look like one is proving to be far easier.
So, here's the question: what do these mean about the next iPads?
We know there will be new iPads. We expect they'll be released very soon -- October, most likely. And just like the new iPhones, expect two models: a new iPad Mini and a new 9.7-inch iPad. This is nothing new; the iPad line split last October. But, the fourth-gen Retina iPad felt like an afterthought compared with the iPad Mini. This year, … Read more
What's behind the power of the new A7 chip in Apple's iPhone 5S? A peek inside its electronic innards courtesy of iFixit reveals one secret.
Unveiling the results of its A7 teardown on Tuesday, iFixit got the inside scoop on the chip thanks to some electron microscope scanning from Chipworks. The teardown uncovered more than 1 billion transistors built into the processor.
But even further, Chipworks found that the transistors are more tightly packed. The distance between each transistor in the A7 is 114 nanometers, an advancement over the A6's 123 nanometer gap. The improvement is possible … Read more

You can buy a lot of things with $10,100 -- unless we're talking hard-to-find iPhones on eBay.
That's how much one eBay buyer paid for a 16GB unlocked iPhone 5S in gold, a device that's currently back-ordered into next month.
The US-based seller "Papakar" put the device up for sale Sunday afternoon. It proceeded to get 51 bids on its way to end at $10,100 just before 1 p.m. PT earlier today.
To put that price in perspective, an iPhone 5 (last year's model), made out of actual 24K gold will … Read more
