Turns out Madden NFL 25 isn't free, but freemium: unless you're willing to pony up for in-game cash (by way of in-app purchases, or IAP), you'll have a limited playbook for solo games and almost no chance of winning multiplayer matches against better-equipped players.… Read more
The company got its start creating algorithms for feature phones but expanded to smartphones. AlgoTrim's Web site says its technology is used for fast decoding of images in Google's Gallery app for the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android and to compress firmware updates for Android phones for some device makers.
Asked about the report, Apple said in a statement, "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not … Read more
Until this past weekend, I knew two main things about Red Hook: that it was a long way from Brooklyn Heights riding a bike with a flat tire and that Ikea is there. These two things were linked.
But unsuccessful shopping trips aside, there is a lot this little-known part of Brooklyn has to offer. This is why the second Field Trip Day decided to celebrate this burgeoning little neighborhood with its diverse history and even more diverse population.
From dodgy reenactments to wine tasting to street buskers, the afternoon was packed with stuff to do, and Field Trip Day highlighted the area to good effect.… Read more
I've always wanted to have my very own theme song, like a hero in a movie. Now, I do. I just used IDNAtity, an iOS app that mixes a little science with art. It takes information about your genetic makeup, assigns you a genetic code, and then translates that code into musical notes to form a song.
You start by uploading a photo of yourself into the app. Then, you answer a few questions about your hair color, eye color, and whether you have dimples (I don't) and can roll your tongue (I can't). The app does the rest, creating a song you can listen to and share.… Read more
John Waite's new live album, "Live All Access," was not a planned release. But after the "Missing You" singer and former Babys and Bad English frontman discovered that he and his band's performances were so enhanced by the addition of new, hard-edge guitar player, Keri Kelli (Alice Cooper, Skid Row, and Slash), he wanted to capture it. Once Waite heard their explosive onstage synergy in the recordings, however, he knew they had to be shared with the world.
In an era of auto-tune and overdubs, "Live All Access" harkens back to a … Read more
You're a student and you're poor. Because of the cuts in Financial Aid (thanks Obama!), you're working at two different McDonalds across town to pay for that triple dorm room. You have to go back to school soon, but you don't have enough money to buy the tools you need to succeed. You resort to piracy and bam, the FBI is on your tail. You flee to Mexico but run into some trouble with the Federales. They deport your behind back to the States and a judge gives you 15 years and says you shouldn't … Read more
Pandora's mobile app for iOS and Android has been updated with a new feature for tired users.
The company on Thursday announced that its app, version 4.5 for the mobile platforms, now supports a Sleep Timer. Pandora says that the feature was one of the most-requested options from users.
With help from Sleep Timer, users can determine how long they want music to play as they are falling asleep. After the timer is up, the music turns off.
The addition to the app might be helpful for users, but it's also self-serving for Pandora. The company pays … Read more
Google updated the beta versions of its Chrome browser on Thursday with new features that push the envelope just a bit further.
Chrome 30 beta for desktops takes a stab at making image lookups on Google easier. Right-click on any photo embedded in a Web page, and you'll see an option to "Search Google for this image." Click it and a new tab will open with search results for that image.

There is no automatic algorithm … Read more
An artist's artist, nine-time Grammy-award-winning musician John Legend remains sought-after for collaborations by the likes of Lauryn Hill, Kanye West, Jay Z, and Alicia Keys. His respect within (and outside of) the music industry is testament to his commitment to excellence -- and the primary reason that speaker leaders Definitive Technology called upon Legend to be their first-ever brand ambassador.
As part of a multiyear partnership deal, Legend, whose fourth solo studio album, "Love In The Future" drops Sep. 3, will serve as figurehead and muse for the brand's upcoming audio rollouts including the Sound Cylinder … Read more
